I am upgrading my gpu and am just gonna go balls deep this time with a 1080 TI. Has anyone used this version, it is pretty large and I have heard things about reinforced pcie slots but Idk if those are just people joking because of its size or if people actually think it is needed. I am really just wanting to keep temps down. Love to hear opinions or other peoples experience with their TIs and temps.

yes good goy, buy the 1080 TI.

That was helpful.

Don't buy it unless you're doing 4k or 1440p 144hz.

fuck off

Would you recommend I settle for the regular 1080? I am currently using a 970, and although I wouldn't call it a low tier card it showed its age far too soon. So I didn't want to get fucked by something that would age too soon.

I also am not ready to do 1440 @144hz yet as I just don't have the monitor for it, though I have nothing against moving up to it in less than a year.

What resolution are you playing on? Ti is only necessary for 1440p 144hz and 4k60fps as >>377366951 said. Otherwise you don't need something that powerful.

Just hold out for a month or two and see if amd releases anything good with Vega.
Even if you are an nvidia good goy, nvidia gpu prices should drop so win-win.

I'm in a similar situation and went for it. I use the DSR to have it run games at 1440 on my 1080 monitor so I'm getting some use out of it until I can upgrade my monitor.

Well atm 1080, since that is what my monitor does, I also have an Ultrawide, but nothing 1440 yet. I wanted to upgrade my gpu before I started looking at expensive Monitors.

AMD fucked me too many times. But thank you for the input.

Well 1440 144hz and 4k 60fps are your choices. 4k is pretty beautiful, and the ti will be the king of 4k60fps for awhile. Also, if you can, get the Asus Strix 1080ti OC, much more solid design than the Aoruis models.

Oh well as for monitors I am a smoothness fiend so I will go for 144hz. 4k can wait till it is a real thing in the market, I still don't feel like it is there yet.
