The old genesis games have hardly any of the scripted shit that the newer ones have. Arguably the main appeal of the games is the physics which add a lot of depth to the platforming mechanics. There really aren't any genesis games that nail platforming physics like Sonic, that's part of what made him famous.

We like Sonic, but the Genesis had much more to offer. A lot more. Treasure mastered the hardware with Alien Soldier and Dynamite Headdy, Ristar is a game you could never get in today's industry and Pulseman proved small companies can make breakout titles that lead to bigger, better things.
