One thing that Cold Steel does objectively better than Persona in regards to making the characters feel like real people is flesh out their side relationships.

In Persona, whenever a character isn't directly in your vicinity, they may as well not exist. Your friends aren't actually friends of eachother, but all your friends individually and separately who would probably never speak to eachother again if you were to disappear one day.

Cold Steel is really good at fleshing out those side relationships. We know all of Elliot's friends in the music club, and his family, and how each of them see him as a person, and how those views occasionally clash. We know that Sarah is pulling strings behind the curtain to have the girls in your class help Fie adjust to life in a social setting, and we see the girls in your party individually supporting her in their own ways as the game progresses, in little scenes that aren't at all relevant to the main story or bonding events at all. We're not explicitly told, but a really neat subtle friendship that you can pick up on is Jusis and Gaius who are often seen hanging out together in CS1, again in non story or bonding segments, which makes complete sense when you consider that Jusis' status would intimidate everyone from spending time with him, with the obvious exception of the foreigner who doesn't understand the class system.

Each individual character may not be as well written, but the web of relationships is infinitely more interesting than that of Persona.

Didn't actually finish it until the HD release on PC, but my experience with the psp version convinced me to get the pc version when it came out, and the rest is history. Now Trails has multiple spots in my top games list

As far as we know, Rean is holding himself down from action to not be involved with the kind of heroics that might force him to bring out Valimar, hence his new gig as a teacher.

First and foremost thing to address is that his reputation precedes him and that the kids, at least the ones who seem to matter, practically hate him for either Crossbell's occupation and the royalty losing out on their societal boons. Even Altina can act as friendly as she wants, she's still keeping on eye on him for the Ironbloods. Getting this dynamic changed will mostly likely be the very first portion before lets say Sara shows up again bearing some bad news going around Western Erebonia.

I honestly can't imagine Rean having the free time to do his usual bonding event shit since he actually has a job now unless he's making Towa make the curriculum for him. I'd love for it to have Rean be sought out by some NPC students and help their problems with the few instances he instigates a problem solving adventure to his problem kids. Plus I hope he gets to play match-maker.

Honestly there's a lot to be excited about and be dreading about but I'm honestly just looking forward to the fact Rean is a teacher and what interactions he might have with the others over how troublesome kids are. It's just a side of perspective not rarely seen.

Adding to that, I imagine Rean would once again put the same damn thought-process that Olivert and Sara went through to apply the field studies, AKA the Estelle and Joshua FC adventure, to learn about the area they will come to soon protect. Although, the dynamic is changed first by Rean being the teacher so maybe how a story act progresses is Rean choosing which areas his kids get to run around in with his supervision, having an escapade, going back to school for downtime, and then moving out to the next area until a story event occurs.

The dynamic shifts again because A) Juna probably doesn't care about Erebonia at all and is probably going along the ride just to map out which threats are which in the country (but even she looks strangely happy leaving Crossbell to attend anime highschool life). B) Unless Kurt was sheltered as fuck and didn't have an Olivert to follow around, he most likely has seen a bit traveling around. C) Altina is most likely knowledgeable given her job.

Maybe perspective switches will be a thing and Juna and Kurt become a power-duo in their shared role as the protagonist for these parts until Rean and his old friends reconvene to address the bigger threat. That still begs the question in Rean even letting his students fight the big fights. If anything, I guess they can still be around to take care of the smaller mooks.

Since Altina knows what's up, I'd really like to see Rean and Altina leave the school on some days to do some reconnaissance work once the happy happy school days portions reaches its end. Of course, just the implications these two leave the school together at night and are seen together at night will just provide endless misunderstandings for Altina to imply to the other kids to possibly keep her own cover in check. I think it's been stated that she has been his most frequently paired partner in Ironblood operations but he hasn't had the chance to really bond with her so he trusts her to a point where he knows she'll have his back during a fight.
