I was less disappointed with MGS4, whereas I was deeply and profoundly disappointed with TPP.

The little gameplay MGS4 had was phenomenal, generally superior to everything after it. The only problem is that it's barely a game.

TPP is just forgettable, bland, open world bullshit. Thinking about it still pisses me off.

Chapter 1 and 2 were good, chapter 3 is awful, chapter 4 was sort of fun (the Metal Gear fight was good) and then chapter 5 was a disappointing boss fight followed by the cringiest cutscene ever with Meryl and Johnny.

Overall, 4 is definitely the weaker of the two. However, consider that for the "classic metal gear gameplay mechanics", 4 was actually very well made and arguably the best gameplay-wise because of its tight controls re-imagined in a modern setting with genuinely impressive graphics that's still look great by today's standards. The issue is just that the gameplay segments themselves are so short and the cutscenes are unbearably long.

If MGS4 was 80% gameplay and 20% cutscene (basically the opposite of what it is now) and had a slightly less fucking stupid plot, it would probably be the best one in the series.

It didn't stand out in any way whatsoever.
The level design was simply boring, it was what if MGSV was linear but kept the same unoriginal and uninteresting enviroments.
Then from act 3 onwards it's like they forgot they were making a videogame.

MGS4s main issue was that there wasn't enough of it. The gameplay was solid, visuals were groundbreaking at the time, lots of weapon and equipment variety, and it wrapped up the MGS storyline nicely. It did everything right, it just lacked the core gameplay that made it so good.

MGS5 was intrinsically broken. The fictional weapons and tech felt radically out of place considering the setting. The reaction time and regenerating health were unnecessary additions to the series. The story was jumbled, incomplete, and ultimately irrelevant to the series as a whole. The whole concept of language based parasites that give you super powers but also kill you was just too contrived, and thats in a series featuring robot ninjas and nanomachine zombies.

All in all, while MGS4 had its issues, there was absolutely nothing particularly redeeming about MGS5.

i played the first 3 (skipped 4 because people said it was shit) to get ready for 5.
5 was utter shit,decided to play 4 and was suprised by how not shit is was and had alot of fun with it.
