Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

He requires good knowledge of spacing and movement, since he is very counterhit based. His juggle combos require numerous cancels (Wildman cancel, DCK cancel) to get the most damage out of them. Peekaboo stance is great for mixups and rushdown.

CH b+1 is a classic Steve move that opens up a lot of options for him.


Sonic Fang (df 1+2) is his classic whiff punish.

All in all, he's great at pressure with some great combo damage if your execution can keep up. His glaring weaknesses are his lack of scary low attacks and lack of good launchers, though he has a new one in Tekken 7 that kinda works out.

If you're thinking of picking him up, watch some high-level Tekken play on YouTube. BattleFinger has tons of matches for every character.

You don't need all those moves. There are only a handful that are useful. Hell, those key moves have the same animations from previous games.

Steve has 135 moves in Tag 2, yet I only use about a good handful of them. It's just something you remember over time. Tekken just takes a really long time to get decent at. I'm still trash, but I still try to learn new things whenever I play it.
