They did not renew, they extended the rights they already own. There's a huge difference between the two. To Renew would signal new development. Extended means they're ensuring nobody can build on the money and marketing Microsoft has already poured into it that ip.

Platinum is incapable of making big ambitious projects. Its obvious their strength is on small scale action games like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. Let better developers who are more experience in open world games handle this one. Did you watch the trailers? The framerate was terrible. You can tell Platinum was struggling but the concept was great.
