A lot of people complained about the ending. It was very in line with the themes of the game; ie empathy and how our experiences shape us. It wasn't that much of an M. Night Shyamalan twist anyway; there were plenty big ole hints pointing towards it.

The problem wasn't the twist, but ALL the unanswered questions. It's fucking insulting.

What happened to Earth? What happened to Morgan? Were the Operators in the end real people? Is TALOS-1 still okay? Is Alex the last man alive? Why were you a phantom in the end but still wearing shoes? What is Alex's plan? How is making one phantom empathetic going to stop the Typhon?

Still a great game, though.

Yeah the visual glitches in the audio and the hallucinations throughout the game, not the mention the early ending you get with Alex's Escape pod made me predict that I'm inside a Looking Glass simulation, but I didn't expect to be a typhon, the NPC's to literally be AI and to be judged on all the sidequests I did.

I really appreciate all the ways this game promotes player agency and the fact that the ending took it into account as well. There isn't really a huge push for me to approach any situation in a certain way, but that's kind of why it felt so good. Just knowing there's 5 inconsequential ways to acces every other room.

Resource management felt really good, too. Not like RE7 was.
>>

>Used to be afraid of them and wasting ammo on bots
>Then found out the stun gun is op against literally everything that doesn't have a electricity immunity
Just stun gun the fucker and any bots he has
Stun gun is really ridiculous, even moreso when you upgrade it because it one shots any operators on nightmare and stuns anything else for 9 seconds
>>
>>377335391
I think the implication is that they needed to know it was POSSIBLE to convince the typhon to be empathetic, and that they hoped your empathy would spread later on
>>
>>377335391
All of those are irrelevant and are left ambiguous on purpose. There isn't supposed to be a happy ending. I thought it was really cool storytelling that Alex might be trying the empathy-with-typhons route too late to save humanity.

And the view of Earth is just to give you a message to what happens and make you think about your decision of what to do with Talos I.

The AI are atleast based on real people's neuron scans. Remember the articles about a billionaire having his brain scanned in its entirety and building a proxy of himself to execute his will after he passes. Danielle, Elazar, Igwe and Mikhaila were all real people who worked abroad the Talos I when the simulated events went down in reality.

There were also the Looking Glass goggles in Calvinos cabin that hinted at how a simulation of that scale was possible.

I'm curious to know what the real Morgan did and if we might be "his" Phantom. It would be pottery.
>>
>>377335846
>All of those are irrelevant
>the fate of the human species and all the relationships you formed during the game are irrelevant xD stop wanting it fleshed out at all Xd just take his hand or kill them all no matter what actions you took during the game and wait for the sequel that's never going to happen xD

I just Q-Beamed every Wyvern and Technopath. I'm actually curious as to why many people find the combat difficult. Sure, you can get careless and die, but overall I never found myself having any real trouble with anything. I finished the game with 2 and a half stacks of Armor Kits and over 50 medkits.
>>

>What happened to Morgan?
Typhon'd
>Were the Operators in the end real people?
No, they're probably like January
>Is TALOS-1 still okay?
Either in ruins or blown up
>Is Alex the last man alive?
He's dead, the ending scene is still a simulation as well, there's a brief glitchy frame where Alex is missing yet all the operators are there
>Why were you a phantom in the end but still wearing shoes?
They're comfy and easy to wear
>What is Alex's plan?
To not get pushed into the track, which happened anyway
>How is making one phantom empathetic going to stop the Typhon?
It's going to teach the Typhon not to be cunts with zero empathy and everyone is going to live happily ever after

It really depends on how focused you are in your build and your thoroughness in recycling. If you spread your points a bit too much you end up with some underpowered weapons towards mid-game when the difficulty goes up. If you go directly for stuff like Gunsmith and the weapon damage mods you become godlike very quickly.

Anyone dissapointed in the tweest?

Won't ruin it out of politeness but it really left a sour taste, out of interest I got "good" ending but the whole thing felt like it undermined the actual choices made even if they arguably did affect the ending.

I don't know if i missed something but i feel like if the ending is just decided by the player right at the end it feels a bit of a cop out unless your actions actually affected it more than i realise.

Oh also the last third feels a lot worse than the first two and everything feels kind of anti-climactic which is a shame cause when the end begins in the Arboretum it looks pretty cool.

Anyways. The world design was really strong, the station feels lived in and believable like people could actually live there and work there. The combat starts shit but improves by the half way make before becoming too easy towards the end. The story is interesting but a little predictable with the twist to anyone paying attention and
T
he sound design is schizophrenic sometimes it's amazing and sometimes it's awful. The noises and sounds of the station and typhon are fine but don't feel properly scripted or faded in that sometimes audio seems out of sync and leitmotifs seem to play at random. I feel like they were going for a deliberate sound wall to startle the player but for some reason the audio feels really compressed or low quality when it sounds out loud.

Yeah, we'll probably get some weapon packs or extra powers added, ontop of the scrapped medical system.

Bethesda isn't going to pour money into this game considering how bad it's doing. Especially when you add on top that they already wasted 10 years of money on Human Head Studios to jerk off.

Yeah I agree.

I feel a bit like they went for an unnecessary sequel hook at the end when the actual plot they had would have been stronger as a self contained event. I feel like the twist was added in order to live up to the SS2 inspiration and Bioshock but those of us who've played either could see it coming and imo they shouldn't have played it so close when the gameplay and exploration was the only real element they needed to steal.

So even if the shuttle was contaminated, the Typhon would just die off anyway. If they could have survived on Earth, they would have begun consuming it decades ago.

Past a certain point, the game spawns a large Typhon called the Nightmare. It appears randomly every so often and searches for you/attacks you for three minutes. During that time you will have a quest called The Nightmare is Hunting You.

Maybe the timer on that just ran out just as you happened to have thrown that recycler. Alternatively the game glitched out momentarily.

They literally don't s e e humans, in that humans are not seen as actors by them. Instead of a being with agency and consciousness they are just a source of the latter, which serves as a nourishment for the Typhoon. The whole simulation deal was to make the aliens see humans as persons.

It's not so much that BGS is run by Todd's every word, as much as Todd is forced to follow Zenimax' every word because BGS is their primary money maker machine, and they'd be fucked to give BGS a chance to take a risk and potentially do something that could cost them to gross less sales than whatever game they previously pushed.

I'd even wager that the reason BGS fails to mix up a fresh new formula for their games that isn't the shallow pissy mess of a bastardized RPG is because Zenimax sees that that is what worked in the past to rake in millions, and is forcing them to stick with it.

Unfortunately for them, Fallout 4 proved that people are finally sick and tired of it, and BGS needs to do something entirely new and fresh with their entire formula if they don't want their next game to be critically panned for being the same tired shit for the 6th time.

I'm not sure if I missed something or if it's never mentioned, so I'll ask you guys (endgame spoilers).

Do we have any idea if Morgan built November? If yes, what would be its purpose? We know about October, December and January, all built with different purposes, so I'm guessing either November gets mentioned somewhere and I missed it or there are hints somewhere about it.
>>
>>377352831
I think that not everything that is outthere in the GrandSim existed in realitywith actual Morgan. Operators that you see are just representations of real Morgan's compulsions at the time. Which compulsion would you go with is your choice.

>>
>>377353141
I agree, but what strikes me as odd is that the last operator/choice is called October and not November. This is a bit meta, but if they just wanted to make each operator represent the player's possible choices there's no real reason to leave a gap between October and December - they could call it November and nothing would change plot-wise, without leaving room for doubt. It could mean nothing, obviously, but the writers at Arkane probably left the gap open for a reason.

Something minor that kinda bugged me were the human bodies. All the ones that got absorbed by the Typhon seemed to have the same pose. They were all on their back, arm up to protect themselves. Normally I wouldn't have thought much of it but about halfway through the game, I started to notice it and by the end of the game I felt like they had just copy-pasted bodies.

Another minor issue I noticed is that it seemed like there were more phantoms than crewmembers.

technopaths and those electric phantoms are the real nightmares, the nightmare was just a pushover every time it tried to fight me.

Nightmare can't enter a LOT of areas and also has no A.I. routine to hide when the player's in an unreachable area or behind good cover. It has next to no tactical abilities so it dies like a bitch unless one shows up super early on nightmare mode against a new player or someone who's understocked. Based on all that, I feel confident that it was a rushed, unfinished part of the game. Shame.

That said, story shit here, real spoiler: How come Danielle Sho at the fitness center makes it sound like she's gonna die for sure, due to running out of oxygen? Why doesn't she just go back to the airlock and re-enter the ship? Go to cargo bay with the others? She's monitoring bracelet readings somehow, and she knows about the cargo bay muster "team", so it's very strange. Also, she's clearly wearing an Artax system but she doesn't use it during her little "cutscene". I've been pretty thorough in the ship, did I miss something major? Also, DANielle SHO. SHO-DAN

This can happen if the nightmare is spawned and falls through the map somehow. I've never heard of the nightmare doing that specifically, but there was a lot of bad falling out of map in vanilla which I assume is what the pirated version is. Not judging you, just be aware that this can break a few sidequests and keycard carrying boxes/corpses. In my last two plays I haven't seen it at all, but to anyone playing the pirate version, keep a couple manual saves up, just in case. It triggers randomly upon loading a new area, especially when loading saves a few times without area-changing. (This is due to: loading an area within that area doesn't reload the area, just changes locked door states, prop/enemy/container positions, etc. Something about that type of reloading tends to drop shit out of the map.)

It sucks that, due to its nature, this bug will proc whenever it feels like it and there's no reliable way to avoid or sometimes even detect it, but the silver lining is that it can't break a playthrough as long as you keep your hardsaves frequent and properly categorized.

Note: Save/loading in Exterior has zero chance of proc'ing the bug.

No Typhon mode is easy and pretty boring. No neuromod mode is harder but often in a more frustrating way because your stuck in the one-hit kill zone due to no health upgrades. At least with the latter it comes with some unique challenges because stealth is harder, you can't hack anything and you can't repair anything either.

Fun fact, you can push any leverage object using any other object, but its easiest with chairs (for some reason) and things that require a held use key to pick up (for some reason). The larger the object, the easier. You just gotta fudge your object inside the bigger one and let it go, then hit it with a wrench. Something amid that mess of an input pushes any object out of the way.

And, you can stun any mind-controlled human unconscious with the stun gun, then leave the area to make them Safe.

No clue about the neuromods, but wouldn't it not matter in a powerless playthrough? That'd be a fabricator-less playthrough, which might actually be more fun.

Note, this is a copy of the Morgan that is estranged from Transtar Corp, has a change of heart, and the very next day (in his perception) gets thrust into an alien outbreak in space, which for most of the game he'd view as the fault of Alex for being too stubborn in his research, and his parents for being the source of pressure on Alex. Eh, possibly. If the Secret Location is another layer of simulation, then anything goes, really. They could even be lying to the typhon-guy being experimented on to make him empathetic. Earth might not even be destroyed. Think, the main theme of the game is the train conundrum, right? Well maybe they determined that the best way to draw out empathy is to neuro-simulate a typhon on the brink of A) 7 billion dead and B) saving a species and co-existing together, typhon-human like.

You could make Prey 2 where a Typhon-guy pops out of a pod on a nearly-demolished Talos 1, all empathied-up, the one successful test of five or ten Secret-Location-Sims, and has to escape to that one moonbase to REALLY FOR REAL save the world, and that turns out to be what the real Talos 1 morgan/alex decided to do to stop the typhon, not a nullwave or self-destruct, but a bunch of Secret-Location-Sims.

I'm just sayin, you could go all over the place with this ending.

There's actually already a backstory for her in SS1, which is the game that came up with the character. I dont know or care how many of SS1's writers are at 2K, not to mention that it'd be weird for them to say "Hey yeah I wanna overwrite my previous work and write a new origin in this spinoff's sequel's DLC."

While it seems more likely that it's just some dummy in an interview claiming credit for a shodan origin rewrite, I respect your preference and opinion, gayboy.

Wait, what the fuck? I do not remember this.
Then again, I did play System Shock when I was in middle school, so I've probably forgotten most of it.

They built her to self-learn, of course, but then Diego thought that she'd be worth money so he arrested hacker and blackmailed him to steal her and give her to Diego, which he does. Trying to teach Shodan to deal in cut-throat economics eventually makes her really good at cutting throats, basically. Then the events of the game happen. Her backstory is neither center-stage nor portrayed in a straight-forward manner; there's a lot of heavy implication that you may have missed back then, I recommend another playthrough, SS1 does a lot of cool shit even if it is a bit archaic to play.
>>

That didn't actually get me to jump.
What got me to jump is that when I turned around there was one behind me.
>>
>>377364420
>>377364714
Also, the reason Diego turned to his Shodan scheme to expand his wallet was because space-laws were ruining his space-monopoly that weren't in place because space-business was too new and unregulated when he started out, implication being that Shodan was taught to bypass law, morality, rules, shit like that.

I've got well over 200 hours in SS1, and 150+ in SS2, and a bunch of hours in the bioshocks including infinite. not cause i liked it, believe me.

If you liked any of SS1/SS2/BS1/BS2, and you want some rando's opinion, it's well worth 60 dollars, and I haven't said that about a game in like 5 years.

You can pirate it but there's some pretty bad bugs in the pirate vanilla. Totally worth at least that much of a shot, of course.

Question about this game

When does the eye needle scene happen, does it happen more than once, and is it something I can cringe and look away from the screen and it is over after a few seconds.

I hate body horror and needles, but I want to buy this game. The stupid eye needle bullshit stopped me from playing Dead Space 2.

>>377367172
Once and yes, towards the start. When you pick up your first "Neuromod", just glance away for a few seconds until control is returned to you. There's no "URGH"ing and "AGH"ing, iirc, and it's just the one time. There's an implication that you eyeneedle yourself hundreds more times but there's no cutscene or audio or anything, it's just spending points in a menu.

Really digging this game. Playing on nightmare and it's decently hard.

What's everyone's playstyle? I've been using GLOO, wrench, and stealth. Probably need to get the skills that allow more weapon upgrades so the GLOO cannon doesn't become useless soon. Looking forward to investing into the Morph tree for more survivability.

Using my wrench as often as possible helps a lot with resource management. Having 8 EMPs came in handy for fighting a Voltaic Phantom for the first time. I'm also glad I crafted a shitload of 9mm rounds because I ended up having to kite him for a while.

Solving the Calvino puzzle was pretty satisfying

>Uh sir? Couldn't we just send a shuttle to evacuate the survivors and use our Blackboxes to remotely purge the station of the Typhon? It's not like we can just cover this up, we can't just explain away three fourths of the crew disappearing overnight. Besides, aren't both of your sons up there?
>Lol kill them all anyway
