Different area on Earth with whole new visual themes, and its apparently the biggest playable space by several factors. So its probably pretty big for a FPS online game. Also take into account that all side quests and story missions are gotten from the planets themselves rather than a tower that houses every NPC. So now the worlds have to house all the questing objectives.

The biggest worry about the planets is the same shit they did with Destiny 1, small zones with matchmaking barriers between. Just running with some dude and he disappears out of nowhere since he was matchmaked into another instance.
