Endless space 2 is out early, what faction are you going to play first ?
>>

Did automatons make the cut again? They were always my favorite, followed by the empire.
>>
>>377316239
Don't think so, can't find anything about them on the wiki.

The Major are :
The Unfallen
The Riftborn
The Horatio
The United Empire
The Vodyani
The Lumeris
The Cravers
The Sophons
>>
>>377316448
I guess that's not surprising, I found out they weren't a launch race in ES1.

Oh shit, it's out.

Goodbye Regalia, I barely had the time to play you.

I was going to go with the Riftborn because I love their aesthetics and their theme is cool, but I don't like how they're a synthetic race where pops have to be built instead of grown. I think I'll go with United Empire for my first game, they seem to be the most vanilla faction so it'll be a good way to learn the basics.

>>
>>377319570
It's good, but not great.

Gameplay is really solid with a pretty good level of difficulty, but at the same time it's also kind of bland. Hopefully it'll become more interesting after unlocking more characters and shit. I only have 3 playable characters unlocked so far, so there's a lot more to come.

The story is mediocre as fuck, as little as I've seen of it. I guess that's kind of the idea since it's supposed to be a "homage" to classic RPGs, but there's a difference to paying homage and just being utterly generic. My main complaint is that the game has a fucking awful sense of humor and can't go two sentences without dropping at least one really shitty reference. It's literally worse than Borderlands in that respect. Again, I hope it'll get better later on, since I haven't played it a lot yet.

Also some of the voice acting is a bit dodgy.

Those games at least balance their AI around the Normal/Average difficulty, instead of setting the benchmark at Very Easy.

Also, GalCiv actually has good AI for a 4x game, where more AI features get ulocked as you raise the difficulty instead of just giving them free resources and shit.

Not him but how does that matter at all

That's literally just what they call it, how does it matter if there's three difficulties below or three above it

>>
>>377325029
>Not him but how does that matter at all
It matters because the baseline is where the AI gets no cheat bonuses. It's the only difficulty where AI and players are expected to be on the same level.

If you set the baseline at very easy, it implies the AI is practically braindead and can't compete at all without cheating. If you set it at normal, it implies that it'll at least give new players a decent challenge without having to resort to cheats. It's literally the difference between an AI that has at least some ability to fend for itself on a level playing field, and an open admission that your AI is incompetent garbage and needs cheats to survive on even the most basic level.
>>

>>
>>377325484
It's not about the name, you drooling mongoloid. It's about the challenge you offer. If your AI can't function on any but the lowest possible difficulty without cheats, your AI is shit.

Not that this is a surprise, because in both ES1 and EL the AI is completely incompetent on even the highest possible difficulty as well.

>It doesn't matter if you gimp the AI artificially or give it more powers, that's the same thing
Jesus Christ, how can you be this dumb and not forget how to breathe?

Do you even realize that there's a difference between enabling new AI features and strategies and just giving the AI free resources? Because it's a pretty fucking big deal.

It still needs balancing and like two more DLCs in the vein of Utopia to flesh out the mid and late game.

In other words, it's a Paradox game.
>>
>>377330087
The best game for that would be Distant worlds universe, its a bit complex but at the start you can pay pirates to keep you safe for a while and you can do whatever you want.
>>
>>377330335
It's not really shit, it just lacks midgame content so it gets boring. But if all you want to do is mess around with your empire, you'll want to keep that boring midgame going as long as possible before the endgame events start fucking with your business.

>>377330426
I wish it was Crusader Kings in space. The events are the most fun thing about Stellaris, but they're pathetic compared to the kind of shenanigans you can get into with CK2.
>>
>>377330426
It's good in the beginning, has some interesting end game stuff, but the middle is a total boring slog.
>>
>>377330536
Reviews are always weird for this type of stuff because I really doubt reviewers play hundreds of hours of strategy games like I do and can properly judge a game like that both on it's own merits and in the context of the genre

How's the new combat system? I liked the cinematic of the first game but it was pretty shallow.
Also can anyone redpill me on Endless lore? Is it just a loose connection between the games or is there actually a good narrative?
>>
>>377331301
As someone who loves this game:it's shallow. You pick a fleet tactic, move some ships around, and by the grace of a better hero or better equipped ships watch or autoresolve until the loser is decided. Ground combat is even worse and less interactive.

I really dont understand why Amplitude cant do combat. ELs combat was a step in the right direction but still pretty boring. I know 4X games never have enthralling combat and the formula for ES itself lends problems to combat but I wish there was more to it and the battles werent over in 30 seconds
>>
>>377331301
>How's the new combat system?
It's better and less shallow than the first ES, but still not terribly exciting. You just set the tactics for your ships at the start of the battle and the rest happens automatically. The best feature of it is that, unlike most similar games, autoresolve gives the exact same result as actually watching the battle. Since there's no penalty for skipping the boring combat, you can just autoresolve most of your fights and only watch the big/important battles to enjoy the cinematic pew pews and get a more in-depth idea of what's going on exactly. But if you're hoping for a more involved combat system you're going to be disappointed.

They don't want to do combat, it's a design choice. If combat is """good""" it would mean that every battle would take a lot of time. And that would slow down the game to a crawl in real life hours.

So they stick to trying to make "interesting" but still quick cinematic combat.

They're recycling the canon. For example, United Empire and Horatio and etc still exist as major factions. But Hisso are now minor factions in ES2,

And there were actually two space ships to crash land on Auriga
>prison ship
It was first and delivered the Virtual and acted as a seed for the various civilizations of Auriga,
>the Hissho ship The Gray Owl
Is the one that crash-landed thousands of years later and was the one that was rebuilt for the escape from Auriga.

The Cultist queen was a Concrete-made AI.

>In conclusion, Endless Legend is a very solid civilization builder game. The game has a very unique fantasy setting with big differences between the different playable factions. Morally, the game is pretty solid with the main questionable content being its use of different magics, but the biggest reason for not getting this for a young kid being all of the information that has to be digested at one time. Overall, I’d say if you are interested in this genre of game and like a unique fantasy setting, you should probably check this game out.

My sides are in orbit. Because it really is an accurate and good review. I wonder if they will do one of ES2.

I've played EL a lot, and Civ 4 BTS is one of my all time favorite games, but I'm kinda weary about this after watching some of the videos from the developers. One of my main complaints was diplomacy, and by relation the 'influence' resource, was a huge joke of a system. Kinda related, but the AI was so player-centric, that if you had the market dude in your game and even got him a little pissed off, you were perma-locked out of the market even if they had a single shit city on the other side of the world. The second was how unbalanced the native species bonuses were, and kinda related, but the same thing with those temp. resource bonuses. Some were gamebreaking (I think one of the native species gave like flat 5% per dude to combat damage, another like flat 0.5 more resources gathered per node, ect), others hilariously bad. They also seemed to have removed combat entirely why god can't space civ people use starsectors combat? , which is really sad as I liked having to constantly re-arm my armies to face different threats like flying units, ect, on top of the fact the logistic/'building' side of EL wouldn't (imo) be enough to carry the game alone (by far the most impactful decision was placement). For people who have played it, do you think I would like it?

I played the first game a long time ago. While it was really beautiful and had interesting lore, I quickly figured out that the only decent way to play is to colonize as quickly as possible, otherwise the enemy will colonize the majority of the galaxy first, and that's game over. Colonizing fast was essentially the only viable strategy.

So, erm, is the sequel somewhat better in terms of gameplay?

Well, take Civ, for instance. Fast colonization is not the entire point of the game. You compete for strategic resources, places for cities that create more production, science points, etc. And that contributes to victory goals, be that military domination, science, cultural, etc.

In ES1 you would get a game over screen if you don't colonize fast enough. Yes, there are some other victory conditions, but I almost never reached them, as either I or the enemy would colonize the majority of the systems first.

You can disable expansion victory but if you are passive enough let the AI have it, it's bad odds of you ever making a comeback.

Devs please, your ideas how to "improve" turn-based combat are all retarded. You took the wheel and made it a fucking square again.

That this game has such amazing lore and art direction makes it even worse.

Fuck you. Fuck the nu-MoO devs for doing the same thing. You are all shit.

I love their concept. Some dude so egotistical that he just clones an entire empire of himself to take over the universe.

Is the soundtrack as good as Endless Legend's?

One more that I just got, the cutscenes only seem to trigger when you colonize a new system entirely, not just a planet already in your borders

Is it better than Endless Space 1?
Is it better than Endless Legend?

Perhaps the most important question, is it better than Dungeon of the Endless?
