Bought a ps3 + the collection recently. Enjoying it immensely.
>>
Played the first three and Dreadlocked on ps2.
It's surprising how the gameplay of 2 and 3 still holds up today.
1 is still my favorite though.
>>
I really liked the second and third one. They were pretty great games.

I'm not sure what else you want to talk about

Ratchet & Clanck 3 is my favourite game of the series.
>>

Final fantasy 12
And Kingdom hearts 1,2 could also be the best games for the ps2

Combat in general was definitely better in 2 and 3 but 1 had a better story and level design. If the latest game was an exact remake with updated combat and graphics it would easily be the best in the franchise.
>>

Ape Escape was better
>>

>>
>>377314195
My favourite part was when the lava gun in the second game transformed and started shooting pebbles making it complete garbage.
At least they didn't ruin it in the third game.
>>
I emulated them all recently, 3 was my favorite as a kid but playing them again it's actually not as good as 2. They turned it into just a shooter and removed almost all platforming and exploration elements. 2 was the perfect blend of platforman and shootan
>>
>>377314715
the first jak was great, they lost something in transition to the second. still had a decent story enough for me to care.
>>
>>377314819
It wasn't garbage, the meteor gun was one of the best DPS guns in the game. It was just different to the lava gun which was supposed to be used for crowd control.
>>
>>377310893
R&C3 had some GOAT multiplayer.
>>
>>377314819

>Complete garbage

Just stick a lock-on mod on that thing, and it's a beautifully effective mid-range automatic.
>>
>>377314850

I agree to an extent. 2 would have easily been the best if it had less clearly rushed bullshit in it, e.g. the Snivelak boss and the snow Yetis.

I can never decide which of the 3 PS2 games is my favourite.

>>377314908

Meh, I thought it was shit.
I heard Jak X had some surprisingly sharp writing though, I gotta try that one day.
>>
>>377315102
I played the first four for the PS2, I thought it started going downhill during that one. Are the ones after the fourth more similar to the first two or tree?
I'm not likely going to buy a PS3 or PS4 anyway, but are they good?
>>
>>377314674
Ape Escape is fun but it's almost entirely designed around gimmicks. I played AE3 recently and it was fun but all the levels basically just existed to introduce a new gimmick/ability that's then dropped immediately after. It never really felt like I was being challenged on my knowledge of the mechanics outside the most basic stuff. Also fuck being booted out of the level after a set number of apes are caught.
>>
>>377315102
jak x is worth a try, the writing is pretty much the same level of quality though. its not bad.

The PS3 games are a step down.
Gameplaywise it's like 3 but with more platforming and generally smoother controls. Everything else is just a little bit worse, the graphics are neat but not as endearing, the music is bland, the writing is shitty and stupid, etc. Just kind of charmless and bland.
If you start craving Ratchet gameplay again then you may as well play a new one instead of replaying an old one. Just don't expect it to be on the same level.

Played CIT and loved it but I don't think there were any more games for the PS3 at the time aside from Quest for Booty which was fun but far too short. Once I get a hold of my PS3 again I'm gonna get the collection no doubt.
>>
>>377316553

Wasn't Quest for Booty basically a glorified demo meant to tie in to the next game?
>>
>>377316553

The collection is slightly broken. Music doesn't loop correctly, tons of graphical glitches, etc.
Runs smooth as butter and gameplay is rock solid but it feels like a cheap emulation.

Anyone play Size Matters? It would be an okay Ratchet game but the fact it's a PSP port ruins it. The graphics and controls suck, the field of view is way too narrow, and all the cutscenes are prerendered and look like shit, plus you don't see your armor in them because of that. Also the gun balance is shit, I've been using the Lacerator the whole time because it's hands down the best until now when I upgraded the shotgun and it went from completely useless to blatantly overpowered.

It's glaringly obvious. In Ratchet 1 the start menu and vendors have heavily distorted picture-in-picture if you're playing in widescreen. In cutscenes (and only in cutscenes!) Ratchet's helmet never ever fits his head, it's always comically big.
But like I said: perfectly playable. Actual gameplay runs fine and feels fine. But the writing and atmosphere of the PS2 games is surprisingly strong and it'd be a shame to have that spoiled.

>>377316828

>pic
I think the PSP version's FoV is even worse. Yes, Ratchet has a detailed model for the PSP, but I want to see the fucking game.
>>
>>377316516
I thought it complimented the first one very well, just like the third one did the the second. It felt like a slow, natural evolution of the game until the fourth came along and everything was arena'd, not only as in the story, but gameplay wise.
>>
>>377316948
>>377317045

The other giant robot that takes forever to kill?

>>
The PS2 were god tier

The PS4 reboot made me hate my PS4. It's easily worse than the fucking first game
>>
>>377316219

>>
>>377316917
sorry about your special needs
>>
>>377317570

>>
>>377317318
>slow, natural evolution of the game
Nigger 2 improved literally /everything/ from the first game, even down to the tiny things like automatically selecting the full amount of ammo to refill at the vendor. It had better guns, better graphics, weapon health and armor upgrades, 2 arenas, 2 races, I could go on. Not to mention a targeting system, the first game really suffered by not having a targeting or strafing system.

>>377317404
What are you complaining about, that they are too easy? This is Ratchet and Clank, they are all easy no matter the game. I died once on the Drek fight, once on the protopet fight, didn't die at all on the Nefarious fight.

>Not playing the superior PS2 version
>>
>>377317786

Some of the shit that was added in 2 was bad.
The bosses are one thing, but the ship combat was hit-or-miss and several levels are blatantly rushed. Ratchet 3 was a lot more polished, for better or worse.

>>377317893

What made it better?
>>
Was my favourite series back in the day. Beat 1, 2, 3, Deadlocked, Crack in Time and Tools of destuction and also beat the reboot.

I used to replay the games 20-30 times because I found them that fun and 100% all the ones I played.

Great series but the reboot is pretty bad compared to the original, the future series is pretty good and the weapon designs were always really creative.
>>
>>377317879
They're bosses, they're supposed to have a lot of health. The only one that is bullshit is the Thugs 4 Less mecha fight, that one is genuinely stupid and it took me 15+ minutes.

>>377317893
I am playing the PS2 version, unfortunately it's barely different from the PSP version.
>>
>>377318265

>They're bosses, they're supposed to have a lot of health.
Bosses are supposed to be difficult, they shouldn't go on for ever while you do very little because that's boring.

Sitting in a turret shooting at boss for a minute only to do that again 6 or 7 more ties is not fun.
>>
>>377318423
Well like I said that one is bullshit, the only bossfight out of the trilogy that I hate because it's so dull.
>>
>>377310893
I remember I had an operation to remove a benign tumour from my neck and I got to stay home from school and play R&C2 all week without my mother moaning at me. It was fucking amazing.
>>
>>377318584

The Protopet boss is the same. It just goes on forever without much variety. Even Nefarious in 3 is the same, although that one is somewhat better because of the interlude.
>>
>>377318214
>I used to replay the games 20-30 times

Bouncer is the best weapon of the series, along with deploy-able turrets. Black hole gun is also a neat concept, but it's functionally too similar to the turrets.

Also this series is real good, it's two developers of R&C2 LPing the game and discussing the level design processes and enemy design struggles.

funny that you mention this as a response to the bouncer, which they only implemented because one of their actual creative guns was too hard to implement for RC2, so for that empty spot they just thought: "how about a bomb... that explodes into MORE bombs"

the visuals and sfx are great though, amazing implementation

1 is a pure classic. Can be hard and still enjoyable. Chairman Drek is best Chairman and his voice is 10/10
2 introduces the strafe mechanic that feels great but makes the game easier as hell. 2 had better levels than 3
3 had better levels than 2 and has loads of memorable characters and LAAAAAAAWRENCE. And britney spears of course
Future 1 is okay, groovitron was funny shit and travelling through space was alright
Future 2 was the best story-wise. Clank had his own shit to do and Ratchet could do things alone. Final Boss felt great. Space travelling was great
Future 3 is okay but very short game with huge ass quests worlds..

Never played any of the others, but wanted a continuation to Future 3/Nexus because Clank kept the Dimensionator.

>>377314365
Funny because Ratchet being a dick to Clank and getting friends with the little robot through the game and the original trilogy made their relationship better than "WE BEST BUDDIES SINCE WE FIRST SAW"

But 1 was the easiest because of the lack of strafe, they couldn't throw any difficult enemies at you because you've no way to effectively kill them. Snivelak in 2 is harder than anything in the first game.

>>377334208
Yeah, it was the real start of their friendship. The original trilogy did an awesome job how their friendship grows each new game and how both get used to each other's flaws
>>
>>377335594
You have more health in the sequels but you still get hit for the same amount of damage, that is Ratchet can still only take about 4 hits on average before dying. In 1 after you get the nanotech upgrade you have 8 hit points, in the sequels you die after 3 or 4 hits all through the game. The robots on the last level in 3 kill you in 2 hits. It's the same in 2.

You have better guns in the sequels but the games throw a fuckload more enemies at you than in 1 and they're harder to dodge. Imo they couldn't make the combat in 1 challenging because of the lack of strafing.
>>
>>377334905

2's story was the weakest thing about it, mainly because it had no villain. Angela is unmasked about halfway through the game and after that there's no main bad guy until the reveal at the end. You make a pretty valid point. In the first game, some of the weapons are pretty clunky, and the difficulty of dodging and aiming simultaneously meant the player needed enough room to do both.

In subsequent games, the ability to lock on to targets and the increase in "shooty" weapons meant the devs could afford to make fights bigger.

But he isn't even that interesting after his development. He just goes to tolerating Clank, then he gets pissed because noe his homeworld's in peril so he's a straight up hero now, which translates to "edgy but for the right reasons". He drags down way too many scenes with his (justified but overblown) angsting.

The writing in Going Commando is genuinely hilarious, from Thugs 4 Less to Thief/Angela to the level videos. It's just an honest to god blast.
>>
Was anyone else mad disappointed that no other levels were on the scale of Tyrhanossis in R&C3? The rest of the arenas and ranger levels felt so cheap in comparison. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cr6BOGdSkg

I'm also bummed out that Qwark coming up with Sly Cooper-esque plans got dropped after that section of the game. Even worse is how the epilogue with turning Skidd back is fully voiced and they were too lazy to finish it.

>The PS4 reboot made me hate my PS4. It's easily worse than the fucking first game
Care to elaborate?
>>
>>377341592
Oh, and Deadlocked is the funniest R&C game by far. Ratchet's an edgelord here, but Dallas and JUUUUUUANITA are too fucking good. I hate how the PS3 remakes fuck up the voice lines.
>>
>>377341573
Bullshit, you entirely break your save of ACiT by just going into level switch while in Clank's mission. None of the ToD bugs have as severe consequences or as easy to encounter.

>I hate how the PS3 remakes fuck up the voice lines.
God, it took me so long to notice that when I replayed it on the PS3. But when I did, I got really sad.

>Will never hear "Don't do this at home, kids; Go to a friend's house!" again
How did they fuck up the port this bad?
>>
>>377341327
I thought Clank's levels were actually good in ACIT. Well, I at least liked the puzzles.
I mean maybe I'm biased, but I was very impressed with the ending. I also hadn't played a R&C game in a while before replaying ACIT, but I had a lot of fun with it.

Obani Gemini, it feels so comfy and I love the design of it.

Probably the Testla Claw from R&C1. It sucks that they've downgraded that weapon so badly in 2. You can't even upgrade it to omega.

I've never encountered that bug.
It's trivially easy to scale any wall in ToD using the Razor Claws.
>>
>>377342015
Clank's puzzles have same problem as tower of Hanoi, the solution is too easy to not see from the start, but you have to go through increasing number of iterations to execute it, so in the end it's nothing but annoying labor.
>>
>>377342004
>mfw Dallas said that exact voice line right when I read your post

Some bugs always escape development. Severity and ease being relatively unpredictable.

Like in Nexus, I broke the game by using a crate to make a jump on like the first world I shouldn't have to that platform before where that professor's hideout was.

best r&c coming through. not even being contrarian, it had the best platforming BY FAR, fun villains and comfy setting.

It launched at, what, $15? It wasn't even really a cash grab. If more devs put things out like QFB as "apologies" for delays, I would be pretty fucking happy.
>>
>>377342015
I think the Clank levels are good in ACiT because they have a bunch of unique mechanics that all work pretty well on their own

>The time puzzles
>The time anomaly stations
>Fixing broken things by turning back time to the point where they weren't broken
>Using time bombs on enemies not only slow them down, but it also slows down their death animation AND any bolts inside the bomb field

Also, in contrast to the earlier games where Clank just felt like a way weaker version of Ratchet without weapons, ACiT Clank actually feels like he has some weight behind his attacks, and what he does has a tangible effect on the universe.

Try to beat the games by only using the wrench

I didn't like it much when I first played it. I shall have to give it another shot.
>>377342821

The time anomaly stations were shit.

All I remember is that it was boring and there weren't any new weapons.
I think I was 12 when I first played it.

>>377342795
I kinda agree on your points, but you left out

>Shortest game in the series by FAR
>No new weapons
>No interplanitary travel
>Talwyn

It's really good as an in-between game to bridge the gap between Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time, but on its own it's really not that good.

>Short sleeves

Fun fact, all of Ratchet's armor was short sleeved in 3 to go with most planets having a warm climate. This was only present in pre-release builds though.
>>
>>377343252
But it was literally made because of the ACIT delay. Even if it was only 4 hours, it was pretty densely packed. Good platforming. The grind rail sections were actually not just braindead, and the 2-3 puzzles were the best in the series.

It was also priced appropriately. R&C 2016 deserves credit for this as well.
