No she wasn't, she was an example of miss boring highschool girl gets the Jock for no reason other than being the main character's love interest. blame the script. Squeenix were too cheap to pay for mouth animation remapping to match the original script, so the translator had to redo it to fit the japanese voice animation. Naturally the languages being so different, the translator had to use certain tricks to make the conversations sound natural, like having the character ask themelves a question, and then answer it.

Yuna's English VA is one of the best the FF series has ever had.

She sounds demure, nervous and unsure of herself yet determined. Exactly how her character is portrayed, and that's pretty hard to pull off convincingly. I think people just don't understand her character very well.

Meanwhile Rikku's VA somehow gets praise for that phoned in performance just because she's "zomg so bubbly and fun XD"
