Everything bad about modern WoW started with Lich King, but it was also the highest point storywise for the setting and every achievement after that has just felt lesser by comparison.

It's still the best selling Dawn of War game to date.

The problem lies elsewhere. RTS is a dead genre and its fanbase doesn't contain any real customers.
People who bought Dawn of War 3 were the Dawn of War fans. But the growth rate of Dawn of War fanbase is far surpassed by the growth rate of the industry and as such, each new game sells more and more but in comparison to other games, less and less.

In other words, abort it. RTS has no place. Generation Z doesn't like it (maybe except for the Easter European kids who lived in a time-bubble back then, but those people don't buy games, they pirate them) and the Milenials are already grown up.

I think this is the firs example of devs saying "We want it to be DotA" and even then I think it was some game reviewing site who said it, I think it was GameSpot misconstruing shit.
But even if EA really did say those words, I mean fuck man it plays nothing like dota.

I wouldn't say the start of the expansion was bad but from ToC foward was the slow descent into the current WoW we have now. How they managed to go from one of the best raids in the game with Ulduar to probably the worst ever made is beyond me. Things really went to shit late Cata though.

Maybe you're aware of some secret technique not known to me but I'm fairly certain you can't estimate shit from sales figures of 71 products in total.
The only quesses you could make would be shit like "Well, each game made about 1,2 million on average".
DoW3 as it stand now had made roughly 13,2 million.

All the later figures show sales even smaller than that with no mention of how many games were produced and the addition of several blockbuster to boot (Stalker games, CoH games, Titan Quest,...) and most certainly even more "others".
