I like dwarves but he is pretty awful to play as due to his height and I don't like how slow his two handers are.

Might go Bright-Wizard instead.

Dwarf is better for tanking and drawing aggro with his shield. Bright Wizard and Waywatcher are the go-to DPSers. Witch Hunter can put out some good DPS as well with his pistols. Soldier and Dwarf are better for tanking. But at the end of the day if you have a good team you can play whoever you want. The 2H hammer is great against Stormvermin so it's not like it isn't viable

Thanks for the info. There wasnt any indication that he had better defense as a character so I thought him and the Empire Soldier literally just looked different to the others and could use shields.
I had noticed how much he tears up the Stormvermin actually, pulled my weight better against those than the rest of my buddies.

A good dwarf crossbow and soldier rifle should be able to oneshot most stormvermin, gasrats, gunners, etc. They're pretty useful for quick kills once you get used to sick 420noscoping.

It's not that the character inherently has more defense (everyone has the same HP) it's that the shield can block a lot more hits than any other weapon, so it's useful to draw the aggro of a horde away from your DPSes so they can do their thing. Again the Dwarf can kill things just fine, this is just a guideline for higher difficulties where teamwork is really important.

The shields have a better feeling to them anyway. Shield bashing feels really impactful where as some of the 2-handed attacks feel like they just swing right through the enemy.

pretty cool people are still playing this game, I love Warhammer. idk what the meta is but I have 170 hours and loved playing the Empire Knight, I always rolled around w/ the single shot rifle, the INSTANT I heard a special vermin I would target only him and blow him away. Really good for more armored vermin too like stormvermin or the ratling gunner.

My main weapon for a while was the 2h hammer w/ healing on it whenever I did a heavy attack, heavy attacks cleave thru and knock back everything, and the light attack smashes overhead. I tried out the 2h sword with healing on light attacks, it heals more often but i feel like I'm left more open since it doesn't knock back

Oh god that was just pure enragement. For those who don't know: Every time you joined a game that had already started it had a random number of rats invisible to only you. They could be blocked and killed but most of the time you just took damage and didn't know why.

I really hated the ironman gutterrunners though. Literally impossible to dodge and could come from any angle in the world right at you.

Soldier repeater is a normal rat and armored rat murderer nowadays. It can't be interrupted when spun up anymore and does a ton of damage.

Bright Wizard has been nerfed to quite the balanced class finally, so now I can finally play as her when people stopped having her as mandatory map clearer. Still really good with fireballs.

Vermintide is a real frustrating game to me. It's really fun but it's just so easy to burn through any new content. Left4Dead and Payday 2 have lots of problems, but at least there's always a constant stream of new content pouring in.

While I agree - its just not okay that I cannot hit a single fucking enemy in front of me with it.
I outright hate using it now, every other ranged weapon can atleast provide some self-defense at point-blank range by killing a single regular rat about to hit you by simply firing it off in their direction.
If a rat comes for me while I'm already charging, I can cancel and waste charge, then use left click to waste even more charge, or cancel and change to sword, because if I fire it off, it sure as fuck will fly the fuck away at 90°degrees to find some random shit 50 meters away from me to hit.
Its just uncomfortable now.

I think the point is to not rely on the secondary as they buffed the primary. Every little rapid shot stuns a rat and headshots two shot even on cata I think. Therefore it's better to back behind your mates and pick off specials and storms and then engage with primary and melee for the rest.

The lockon could be faster but it works nicely even on targets in pointblank as long as you get the red shine before firing.

For me it works to just look at the closeby rat and fire when the lockon changes to it. Sure, you "miss" a bolt on that other thing you were looking for but it's not necessary to abort and switch to defend yourself. The lockon is not THAT slow.

No playable Skaven, unfortunately.

Public games tend to be fine for me, so long as you're not on the higher difficulties. Then again, everyone is always pissy and moany when it comes to co-op games at higher difficulties, no matter the game.

Honestly, the biggest problem with public games is that the player population can feel a bit dead a few months after new maps are released. Players like me burn through it and then we're just done, waiting for the next release.

Youre fucking retarded. Rapier is trash on Cata compared to Falchion. Most people roll for Killing Blow normal to make up for the lackluster damage even when headshotting, but the laughable two targets per swing makes it still underperform. Meanwhile Falchion light attacks decapitate cata clan rats everywhere and thus bloodlust outperforms regrowth by a mile.
And this is not even mentioning the insane Stormvermin and Ogre damage that Falchion deals, while Rapier cucks have to rely on slashing for KB against SV and whipping out a ranged weapon for ogre.

Are you talking about the charged attack? Because the falchion hits 3 and damages 2 with the light attack. Also it's pretty fast if you spam the first two attacks with block-cancelling.

Rapier regrowth is 5%. Bloodlust is 10% and heals more when proccing. Since falchion kills at least 1 rat every strike, it should be quite obvious to anyone that Bloodlust in this case is much superior, and rapier regrowth is unable to compete.

1) you miss out on the powerful Killing Blow normal trait which gives it reasonable killing power

If im JUST slashing then i can hit four rats in the time it takes the falc to hit two. Since BL only procs on kills the rapier would outheal the falc. Assuming rng worked how it should.

Alright, there's starting to become a habit in your posts, where in every aspect you fall back on the attack speed of rapier. Lets ignore for a second that you earlier tried to advocate for using charged attacks.
Falchion light attacks are usually used as follows: two light swings and a quick block cancel to reset the attack chain.
first attack duration is 0.55 seconds, while the second is 0.70 seconds. So 1.25 seconds to do the main combo that hits 3 rats per swing, and is guaranteed to kill at least 2 rats, and in most cases kills the third one as well.

Meanwhile rapier both first attacks are 0.40, so 0.80 seconds. Both of these attack have to hit the same target to ensure killing it, so only in dense enemy population can you reliably get two clan rats per combo. To kill a third one you have to spend another 0.80 seconds of attacking.
Importantly the block cancel of Flachion is significantly faster than with Rapier, ensuring that downtime between attacks is minimal.

From these numbers it should be clear without a shadow of a doubt that on Cataclysm, Falchion is the more reliable tool for the job. You oneshot clan rats while rapier requires both strikes to land on the same rat.
Against a single (or double if lined correctly) rat, rapier is 0.45 seconds faster. Any more rats than that though, Falchion outperforms it.

Stormvermin (close-mid range) and, honestly, specials. Repeater doesn't do as much damage per shot as the crossbow, but it fires faster and is hitscan. I'd much rather have the repeater if an "oh shit" moment pops up than either crossbow. It's also pretty good at anti-ogre (not as much as the volleybow of course).

Alright, lets look at it then:
short charged rapier strike has a duration of 0.65, dealing 5 damage with a headshot multiplier of 1.75. Like you say, you need another hit to finish the rat off, which is 0.40 seconds additionally to that.
With 1.05 seconds spent, we have accomplished killing 1 rat and possibly wounding the second one for 6 damage with the light attack. Again, with 1.25 seconds with Falchion we would have killed 3 rats.

But using a charged attack in the first place is retarded. You miss out on regrowth and KB procs, and waste 0.25 seconds per rat, since two light attacks are faster and kill just as well.

Keyword here, reliable. People prefer Falchion since it is more reliable. It doesnt require Killing Blow to combat Stormvermin, and it doesnt require hitting the same target twice. It doesnt require KB to perform, which allows it to roll things like Bloodlust+Devblow+Secondwind for example.

Ah, so you meant the longer charged version of the poke since short one hits only one? That one takes 1 second, and indeed it is possible to kill two targets with a single attack. So with 1 second and incredible precision you are able to kill 2 rats.
But what about the third one? 0.80 seconds is the minimum without KB to kill a clan rat, so you in fact lose in time compared to the Falchion's 1.25

Eh, I'm sorry but I just dont see it. Without Killing Blow normal Rapier is in similar times with normal rats.
With Killing Blow you are able to outperform Falchion, but you are relying on the procs. The Regrowth of 5% is not even remotely competitive against Bloodlust.
And lastly Rapier is complete rubbish against Stormvermin, regardless of what you do.

You talk about rapier as some sort of super difficult weapon to use, but as numbers and practice shows, the optimal way of using the weapon is spamming light attacks in hopes of KB procs.

I love rapier, don't get me wrong. I use it often myself and have two rolled so I can be free of the KB meta. But it cannot compare to Falchion, no matter what you do. Falchion is the more reliable weapon that brings more to the table.

Dunno about other classes, but Bardin's one handed weapons are absolutely boss.

The axe will kill any slave or clanrat in one hit, is very fast, and keeps you mobile with high blockspeed and long dodges. Headshots kill cataclysm clanrats in one hit and the overhead attack will clean up most specials pretty well. Drakes or Grudge are both good enough to handle really large hordes.

1H Hammer is a lot weaker, but infinite targets and Killing Blow make it an unexpectedly kickass choice. I prefer it over the axe on cata as it's much too inconvenient to land axe headshots on every single hit.

I agree. L4D was always dumb with its balance imo. The weapons all felt the same and anytime some strategy was made, Valve would patch the game so that strategy was no longer viable, so it felt Fucking tedious and like a chore to play. Vermintide has a lot of flaws, but it feels like Fatshark at least remembers at its core the game should still be fun
