Bet you play on freedom you little shit. But yeah for comfy homesteading with crafting and basic survival wurm is pretty good. The main game has plenty of servers of untouched land to build a brand new homestead on you'll be fucking lucky to ever see a human at, with thr ability to global chat other players and trade if you live near a road or find your way to a highway or just build your own.

There's also wurm unlimited by those servers are community maintained, but it's a one time fee. Basically WURM

Subnautica and The Long Dark are incredible but don't match your brief very well. Stranded Deep and The Forest are pretty bad and Subsistance looks and sounds like a Rust ripoff.

That's all I do in Life is Feudal, so yeah it's extremely viable and maximum comfy, and because it's your own server you have the added benefit of being able to tweak all the settings, alter things like the mining speeds etc so it doesn't take you a life time to actually dig a mine.

The Long Dark is probably the most comfy. You can sort of make a base, by dropping stuff off at a certain location. But its not like you have control over building anything.

I absolutely love The Long Dark. I just wish I was better at it. I could live for a while as a straight scavenger, but I always seem to run out of resources.

I know the overall point of the sandbox is to die eventually, but would be cool to live in a cabin, build stuff and go out and kill without running out of ammo.

The Forest and Subnautica are both fairly comfy.

There is actually a mode in The Forest that allows you to disable the cannibals so you can just focus on living out a Gilligan's Island fantasy

Sounds like Rust to me, only singleplayer (and they're making it multiplayer). The video on the Steam page looks just like Rust but jankier too. Same building, same item placement, same resource gathering, etc. Perhaps it plays differently but you couldn't tell from the material they've made available.

Rust isn't at all like what OP wants. It's really more an FPS with basebuilding. The "survival" part really falls flat, especially with the more recent updates.

Fair enough. By that logic there are a lot of RUST ripoffs. Mostly everything. Not saying it is a bad thing, but it is kind of like back in the day everything was DOOM clone.
Anyways, correct me if I am wrong, but in RUST there weren't any NPCs other than wildlife, right? There are in Subsistence. They build bases and hunt and gather and can fuck your day up if you come at them.
Subsistence also got a pretty okay nutrition system, in which you need protein and plant fiber to function properly.

Ark is the polar opposite of decent. It's fucked mechanically and technically, and the extreme power disparity between small and large clans is fucking ludicrous. Griefers killed the game indirectly because every server I've played on's alpha tribe inevitably razes your shit to the ground offline because someone didn't recognise your name so you could be a griefer and because of the power disparity it takes a total of five minutes to dismantle a hundred hours work.

The wait-to-tame system is fucking awful, too.
