The OST is great, the problem is it's only half as long as it should be. The entire second disc introduces like 2 new tracks during it's entire length so it makes me think that like with the rest of the second disc they didn't have time/money to properly score it.

If you love sitting through more cutscenes than actual gameplay, along with more ellipses than the entirety of FF7 and FF8 combined (seriously like 90% of Fei's dialogue boxes have them) then yeah go for it.

IMO Mitsuda nailed all of the slow, emotional, and "mystical" tracks, which everybody seems to all agree. But the combat BGMs were fucking sleep inducing for the most part.

Xenogears is the type of game where you have to sit through 10 hour of generic JRPG before it finally has you in a place where it can start subverting your expectations and get interesting.

Compound that with the fact the game is half finished, far too ambitious for the team's first game and at this point pretty dated with it's painfully slow text crawl, high random encounter rate, some really clunky platforming controls it's a hard game to recommend to anyone who isn't already a fan of older JRPGs.

Disc 1 is 80% gameplay, 20% story

Disc 2 is 90% story, 10% gameplay

The game really doesn't start picking up until you're like 10 or so hours in, which can be hard for people. I love the game but I wouldn't go around recommending it to people who don't play JRPGs.

To be perfectly honest, 90% of why I like this game is Master Asia following you around trying to get you to kill God.

Complaints- budget and time meant they cut a large amount of the game; the second disk nonsense people are talking about. Is it still good? Oh yeah.
It relies heavily on Christian symbolism (but not any kind of literal reality thereof) and Freudian psychology, which was cool and very well done I just hate Freud so... yeah.

The best part of it all is Elly. Her conflict and complexity still makes her my favorite female character ever

First time I tried playing it I got trapped behind the maid between the beds and I couldn't get out I was trapped.

That was the last time I played it as well.

i tried getting into it the game is just too fucking talky theres text upon text upon text, i dropped it around the time you meet the priest dude who not so subtly implies child rape which ill admit is pretty out there for the time. then you go on the bridge for another cutscene before a boss fight wich i thought you were meant to lose, hate when jrpgs do that and after wiping you gotta go through all the talking again.
