I've played it and it's utter garbage. It's slow, F2P, unbalanced, ridden with lags and bad hitboxes, you're not allowed to create custom matches and there is no way to play with your friends in ordinary DM, unless you just get randomly thrown into the same session.

Id Software themselves knew that, that's why they made Quake Champions and not Quake V Arena.
QC will not die soon after release you can screencap that. If the esport part doesn't fail QC will be the next big thing in competitive online games.

They can add new champions which would be a big change to the game each time, new customization options, armor pieces, skins from others Id games but also announcer voices, etc.

Custom servers are going to become a necessity if they want this to actually survive. People played Quake for years not because they were dueling 1v1 with people but because they could fuck around in dumb shit like 2fort.

Hell, custom servers is why most of the Source multiplayer games still have decent populations. Making duel the main mode of this game is going to yield a negative playerbase, as new players get sick of getting railed by a 90 damage railgun by some oldfag trying to relive his teenage years.

People who wanted arena shooter still play arena shooters. Why would anyone buy Reflex if the could get Warsow and UT4 that are free and better? You can't sell proper arena shooter today. Maybe something like unreal with lots of content and game modes will do, but not quake 3.
