Hayden's full-body robot prosthesis is extremely well-built and a lot more powerful than it looks.

When you first meet him in person there's blood on his hands, so he may very well have been ripping and tearing demons apart with his cold, unfeeling, robot hands midst using the supplies he has in his office that he shares with you.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hayden's robotic body runs on the same kind of process as Doom Guy's in that he can just KILL DEMONS to keep himself powered.

the developers had a really long time to find what worked and didn't about the game they were making, had the creative freedom to shut down stupid ideas. Doom 3 took the idea of "shoot demons" and freaked out thinking that couldnt carry the experience, Doom 4 believes in the game mechanics. It also helps that each and every little thing about the game is carefully inspired by the original, even in small details. For things lacking in the originals, they even took good elements from Doom 3 like the art direction of the UAC.

Wolfenstein is about as classic as the Shadow Warrior. Where Serious Sam takes original Doom to bigger scale, DOOM 2016 re imagines the originals.

I played the MP and had honest to goodness fun. Not many MP games nowadays are based around mechanically interesting and varied weapons with fun alt fires and combat based around dodging with a double jump. Well, the handiwork of the original doomguy is referenced in the background of Cyberdemon. The demon's corpse was excavated from underneath the ruins of an alien tower of unknown origin. UAC used argent energy and cybernetics to resurrect it.

It's not conclusive, but it's clear that the events of Doom 1 did take place.
