I never got the DKR meme. Literally everyone, and I mean literally, who owned an N64 and wanted a kart racing game bought MK64. I went over to a fuckton of different people's houses to play video games in the 90s and I never even saw DKR. I wasn't aware it even existed until I started browsing /v/ a decade ago. Fact: If you wanted to play a kart racing game in the late 90s, it was either CTR or MK64.

mk64 is actually not very good, one of the worse in the series. It was more popular because obviously it's mario, people only revere it due to nostalgia. As someone who didn't play it until 2 years ago, DK racing is the better game

I guess the point of the chart is based on how good the games are, not popularity. I think I put more time in CTR than any kart racer, but I wouldn't consider myself a massive fan of the genre so I can't say how shit MK64 is overall. My point was that it was vastly less popular, but I guess that's irrelevant to this chart.
