That's just how the movement works in the game. And every suit except very few have a main ranged option that usually lands a 3 hit combo. The thing that makes them unique is each has a certain option or move to it that only that suit can do. Take the Tallgeese for example, it has two different types of boosts to use. Or the V2 has 3 different sets of armor that can give it more options to use. Most stuff you just learn by playing and messing around with, I have more fun learning every suit than trying to win.

I enjoyed G Gundam, but even when I saw it for the first time as a teenager, it just made me wish I was watching DBZ or Fist of the North Star instead. Its extremely disjointed and its plot is even more soap opera-y than traditional Gundam series.

08th MS Team and 0080 are both pretty good and don't have much of a connection to the mainline UC stuff, so I'd say those are good starting points. 0083 and Unicorn assume the viewer has experience with UC, so I'd wait on those.
If you're willing to put up with older anime 0079 is really the best starting point though, and if you enjoy that you'll probably like Zeta and the other mainline installments.

I'll never understand anyone who enjoys Gundam for anything else. There's a reason Wing was so successful, and it's not because it was well written - almost none of Gundam is. You watch it because you want to see giant robots fighting with lightsabers for ambiguously sociopolitical reasons. SEED's biggest downfall is how unforgivably shit the animation is,
though that's largely due to Japan's decaying population and economy.

0083 is just batshit stupid in the worst way because they tried to write a story to justify Jamitov taking control, but ended up with another dumbass romance triangle that completely took over and made things drag out.

Also Wing was only successful in the west from the robot standpoint. Wing and SEED have the exact same kind of success in Japan where it's mainly character goods which is why Frozen Teardrop sold well without even having the main Gundam units get a design.
