I think it's high time I post this idea that's been stewing in the back of my mind for years since Bayo 1 and it has just occured to me to complete it with Balder.
One has to ponder where the natural progression in this story will go and how and where that will make Kamiya take it. In Bayonetta 3, simply put, I want the story and mechanics in the game to be expanded on so that in this iteration; Bayo unlocks the Lumen side of her blood and becomes the first being to birth Lumen/Umbran dual arts. The first female to -ever- weild Lumen powers and a massively offensive bastardization of the status quo, garnering the full wrath of Paradiso and Inferno.
Jesus anons imagine how fucking stellar Bayo will look in Lumen then some orignial Lumen/Umbran garb. Have it be revealed that this was all apart of based Balder's -real- keikaku to upend the status quo of both Angels and Demons (of which he despises -both-) and kill Jubileus and give her eyes to his beloved daughter and, through her, humanity. All his prior douchbaggery was an act and in reality his goal was always to create the greatest world for his daughter and to rip away power from any immortal being. Even his "corruption" by Loptr was a ruse and he simply removed his memories before Loptr ever infected him so he could not discover his true intentions whilst inside him. He knows that the providence and love of Paradiso and the rebeliouness of Inferno, while -admirable- are fucking wasted on worthless immortal Angels and Demons and only humanity is worthy of it. A full on fucking reverse-Zamasu.

Bayonetta herself reflects this by adopting a sort of meta mischievous-virtue (which has always been her nature), an acknowledgment that Paradiso's virtue and Inferno's freedom are king but a rejection of Angels' elitism & control and Demons' hedonism & rage. Just imagine her in veiled in Lumen light embracing virtue but with a shit eating grin and a pechant for anarchy. Just a before with little to no alteration to her personality. Great right?
Geting into the actual gameplay; reality would get all kinds of fucked up and quantum-mutated fusions of Angel and Demon would start to appear as enemies. Mechanically this would manifest as a new dimension of gameplay on the same (or greater) level of nuance as dodge-offset; Lumen and Umbran weapons and attacks would need to be switched between and chosen as these chaotic enemies weaknesses to Paradiso and Infero wax & wane with visual indication. Different enemies would have different shift patterns and different metas needed to combat them.
I showed this pasta to a friend before I made a thread about it and he said:

Honestly rained on my parade because I came up with this from the ground up with Bayo only with ziltch knowledge of DMC lore.
Tell me to what extent this sounds like a blatant rip-off.

Overall I think this nicely addresses an obviously common curiosity on the part of players wondering what it would be like to play as a Lumen Sage. We've all thought of it.

Yeah it turns out that Bayonetta's fusion of Sheba and Jubileus was the pivotal moment where Balder's keikaku kickstarts. Don't exactly know how I would write Bayo first coming into Lumen stuff but it'd be a lot like how she sounded cosplaying as that nun but real this time and with an added sensuous guttural bite to her voice. Virtue but with personality.
Bayo could be heard throughout the game waxing sexily philosophical. All punctuated with the good old "fuck Angels" (+ fuck Demons too now).

Madame Butterfly has remained a curious figure for far too long so for sake of sating this curiosity; shes gonna have to die. Make a point that Bayo keeps some of her contractees but others turn on her including that favorite Dragon of hers who she has to put down. All broken up about it even. Gomorrah would be implied to be so full of rage and thirst for blood that it simply wouldn't be in his nature to be down with the plan, so he is an enemy. Madame would be a half point boss or something. And a bitch. Necessitating a replacement for Butterfly as she had served as Bayo's base punch & kick weaves. Some other demon down with the plan that doesn't want to get mutated. Maybe something that looks completely different from Madame's fists and heels. This isn't to say anything of the Angel contracts she scores yet.
Sheba dies too. Maybe even near the start in a similar way to Jubileus, to get her out of the way. The big end boss would be some cuhrayzee bigwig Angel-Demon fusion. Or something.
The thing I have in mind is to have as many new faces to the Angelic and Demonic hierarchies as possible. Big and small. [MAYBE] a third party of some kind, quantum-chaotic-energy-whatever versions of those Lumen and Umbran constructs for instance, as well... but probably scrap this.
Bonus: We get to see Jeanne and Rodin (maybe young Balder instead but I'd prefer not) as her Umbran and Lumen lieutenants looking all badass.

You want to talk about fish out of water? I didn't realize how drab Bayo1 looked until I checked out the WiiU copy of it after beating 2.

1 has better balanced Combat but holey fuuk the campaign flip flops all over the place and everything feels so fucking disjointed, like you seriously have trouble following what's even happening.

Bayonetta 2's campaign is superior because its just way more straightforward. I like Bayo and the music more, and there are cool additions. What sucks about 2 is the reliance on Witch Time and the fact that the last chapters feel rushed.

I don't think there's a best Bayonetta, they have different problems.

I don't know why it never registers my X/A inputs in time, A+B works everytime though.
I die 2 to 3 times on the "time the X press" QTEs and they also come out of nowhere sometimes, I wish the damn things followed a somewhat predictable pattern like in Metal Gear Rising, it always slows down time for a moment with the blue overlay and sometimes it has the Kanji that makes it super obvious.

The eyelashes were the shit. They were a character-defining trait, like Bayo's glasses and mole.
I agree that her haircut and costume are better in 2, but she almost looks like an entirely different character without the thick anime eyelashes.

1 was better. It had some lame QTEs but it really excels in pacing, level design and especially combat. Bayonetta 2 is a mere shadow of it. I had to switch to hard mode and even then it was as though the game was playing itself. Sure, enemies got more hp but the timing felt floaty as shit, way too forgiving.

I originally rushed through Bayo 1 to get to my brand new delicious exclusive wonder but 2 was just bland. I keep returning to 1 over and over again.

Start on Normal. It one of those games that might seem "too difficult on normal, too easy on easy" at first, but there's not one but two unlockable harder difficulties. And as you play through it for the first time, getting better and better, you'll realize that Normal is actually really forgiving.

Except enemies aren't just mindless punching bags in Bayonetta. Maybe some, but not all. Definitely not Grace and Glory and especially not the enemies that are on fire. The whole idea behind Bayonetta 1's combat system is to subdue enemies before you're rewarded with being able to perform air combos. And even then, you NEED to mix it up if you intend to get a good score, so mindlessly button mashing isn't going to get you anywhere in this game.

Wicked weaves meant a lot in Bayonetta 1. It allowed players to push enemies around no matter what. It allowed for setting up good areal attack as well as relaunching enemies. If you mess it up and let them hit the ground, the strategy is reset. Bayonetta 2 literally penalizes you for doing this. Since wicked weaves and witch time is nerfed to the point that it serves barely any purpose, and score is no longer reduced for performing the same moves over and over, you can simply button mash mindlessly and be rewarded for it. Hell, umbran climax is so overpowered, it gives you NO reason to use torture attacks. And since you don't lose orbs for getting hit, it all boils down to "button mash button mash activate umbran climax button mash button mash PURE PLATINUM".

And anything that's thrown at you that's meant to be difficult is purely artificial. Humanoid bosses like Lumen Sage completely ignore witch time and just simply dance around, and none of your attacks put them at a weak state. Just more button mashing galore. Jeanne's battle in Bayonetta had a more fulfilling experience. She doesn't magically dodge your attacks, she deflected them, so you had to figure out a strategy in hitting her where she least expects it, and when she's in a fallen state, you're given a few moments to properly combo her into a wicked weave.

It's ironic that folks keep saying Bayonetta 2 fixed all the mindless stuff. It's the total opposite.

See I used to think like this but after playing both games at high difficulties you realise that Bayo 2 is full of bullshit as well, except it's bullshit that isn't fun.

Firstly, enemies block. a lot, ruining any combo opportunity.
Good luck getting them in the air either, because it ain't happening.

Umbran Climax completely changed the balance of the game, for the worse. It didn't actually make it easier like an overpowered god mode should, but it did:
>make all enemies damage sponges, being expected to use Umbran Climax as much as possible
>make enemies super fast so you can barely start a combo or get a single move in without Climax
>make torture attacks pretty much completely worthless
>hike the score required for platinum in combo, so you absolutely need to use it
>have very strict time limits for platinum, making the need to kill enemies as quickly as possible with little room for inventive combos or experimentation
>make regular wicked weaves have far less damage and impact, making them less useful and making the combat less satisfying as a result.

Added to that they changed witch time, so it's a)mandatory on many bullshit difficult fights when they're too fast)
b)practically useless because you frequently only get half a second and don't get a chance to do anything

on a first playthrough, Bayonetta 1 is harder. But when you're going for the high scores and high difficulties, Bayonetta 2 is much harder, and full of bullshit.

QTEs and shit are annoying but once you've done them a few times they're practically a non-issue.

Oh and the ending of 2 is very disappointing. Where's the Tower of Truth-like Fimblventr level? Where's the epic final boss battle?

You can witch time them by countering them with moon of mahaa kalaa. That's way too unreliable. The window for perfect counter is ridiculously tiny compared to regular dodging, the smallest change in the camera angle or weird character position would fuck up the direction in which you're required to push the stick, and when fighting multiple enemies, especially as fast as G&G it's easy to just miss an incoming attack.
inb4 git gud. There are limits to how gud a human being can get at video games. Not even the best players can fight by "simply" perfect countering every attack.

That's the thing. They're just blocking and not letting you do any reliable damage, making the verses with them drag out without any ability for the player to influence the result.
In the end it just comes down to whenever the AI just decides to let you land a hit on it.
