It was a fantastic design, made to be customisable with as much or as little fine detail as any painter, artist, or writer felt like. It looked good for rabid space vikings, stoic roman proxies, pseudo-vampiric dark mirrors of christianity, and guys who liked reptiles and fire. Once you see the standard faceplate you never forget it, you never forget the pauldrons, or the aquilla on the chest when it's there.

Honestly compare it to more generic sci-fi armour designs. Compare it to master chief. A space marine is a space marine, put that in your original work you're breaking the law, but masterchief is so simultaneously over-designed and generic that you could use him, almost trace him into anything and as long as you tack some new lore on your plagiarism no one will be able to prove you stole it.

The backstory of the Adeptus Astartes (going to refer to them as such since space marine will just refer to generic space marines) is actually one of their best assets I find. While the Spartans rip it off most space marines are just that - marines in space with armor. Terrans, TR or new Conglomerate, your dime a dozen sci-fi stuff.

Adeptus Astartes capture the whole warrior monastic business with a good measure of horrifying indoctrination and body-modification. The helmet like you say is really iconic with the grill. I prefer beakies and I think they are iconic too, but your old school rogue trader space marines would just be lost in the haze of space marines.

Some chapters welcome it, some are suspicious.

Cadia fell and one thing said it exploded another said it still exists in some physical form. Cadian guardsmen held out longer than the planet did.

It's already a conceit of 40K that similar mutations can emerge across the galaxy at the same time at a similar rate, that's where psychics are coming from.

Just have it be an increasingly common geneseed mutation for marines to be bigger. You could even tie this into themes of degeneracy over time, which 40K used to be about, by the bigger marines having some problems and malfunctioning organs that older ones don't, while still being equal in actual battle. It's a malfunction, and it carries the ominous threat that geneseed might one day break down and not work anymore across the galaxy, but for now they're just a bit bigger really.

Although both scenarios carry the same problem.

If the Primaris marines are the size the old marines were always meant to be in relation to human models, and they're, in lore, meant to be taller than old marines in proportion to the differences in model size, that means that one of two things must be wrong with the models. Either:

a)The Humans are too big

or

b)Both old and new marines are too small.

I actually like the new lore tbph famalam.

I like the new marine designs, and it's not like they are just going to magically replace all the old marines overnight. It's just most the new Space Marines getting made will be primaris marines or whatever they are called. Plus, it does open the door for interesting tension and conflict between oldfag marines and newfag marines.

Besides, let's be honest. The story needed to progress somehow and people would bitch no matter how they did it. Just look at nu necrons. In hindsight, the newcrons are much more interesting than the old ones but it doesn't stop people from autistically screeching about it.
