Personally. I think I am just going to get a Switch now. Then when an eventual hardware revision hits, I'll probably get it too.
Because I am assuming, or at the very least hoping, that its dock/joycons/accessories will be compatible with each other. And that way I don't need to buy additional accessories outside of the revision package.

My hope for a revision is that they remove the joycon detachments completely and just give us a regular handheld that plugs into a TV too. But it will probably be a few years before they realize no one even cares about detachable joycons, unless of course they keep manufacturing both versions.

I honestly very much doubt they would ever do that.
To begin with. The detachable aspect of the controllers is unlikely to add much of anything to its costs. Bluetooth is ridiculously cheap and aside from that it's just the metal slider that sets it apart from a non-detachable design.
Now combine that with the fact that it'd make it incompatible with any games actually needing detachable joycons, and it'd be a huge potential loss for them, being wholly unnecessarily exclusionary. And I really have a hard time seeing it.

They wouldn't limit their hardware like that unless there was an incentive to do so manufacturing wise. And I don't think there is.

Also. I really don't see what difference it'd make. Just don't detach your joycons if you don't want to.

I disagree. The batteries and actually molding it as a separate part does add to the cost, and it seems like they're already making all games just work with the pro controller anyway. Arms can be played with just buttons, allegedly. Now some games like 1 2 Switch ain't gonna work, but I bet they just won't care anyway. Their biggest hits are going to work without the joycons unless they want another StarFox Zero disaster.
