How did miyamoto allow this?
He fucking hates story in mario
>>
>>377239609
FLUDD made Sunshine the best Mario game to parkour around like a motherfucker.
>>
>>377240457
The speedrunning and tactics you could use on levels we're pretty good, too
>>
>>377239851
miyamoto is a hack.
>>
>>377240457
>>377240535
Hell no the hover nozzle was lame and just slowed things down. The only good thing it added was sliding around, that's it.
>>
>>377239851
One of the directors admitted to hiding story elements in Mario games.
Or maybe he saw the reception Sunshine got and thought "Never again".
>>
>>377240702
*He being Miyamoto.
>>
>>377240702
Didn't Sunshine get good reviews?
>>
THE WATER'S GREAT, EH JUNIOR?
>>

Hovering and then diving to the ground was fun and kept movement flowing.
>>
>>377239609
>fighting final boss
>all of a sudden, FLUDD starts inexplicably dying

This scene is so surreal, it must have been bookended by cut content, and the developers just forgot to remove the part where a character dies for no reason at all

Then two minutes later FLUDD seems to be OK, and that isn't explained either
>>
>half press F to pay respects

Why are we having a Mario Sunshine thread? Don't we have new Mario games to have threads about? Maybe Mario Oddysey? Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?
>>

It did but I remember hearing that people didn't like the voice acting
Even though it's the 1 fucking dub of a game where I 100% feel like each voice the character had is how they would sound if they spoke English

I agree.

Mario Sunshine is great, but it's been 15 years. We should discuss Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as well as upcoming games like Mario Oddysey, Splatoon 2, and others

If people want to discuss Mario Sunshine, they should take it to the Retro Games board. /v/ is for the 7th gen and up

The tropical island/water theme mixed with the movement of Mario Galaxy aswell as some more diverse levels and shine mission ideas would be absolutely fantastic.

Nintendo games just had a lot of padding in that era, for some reason. Wind Waker is the most infamous example, Thousand Year Door had a lot of backtracking tedium, hell most of their work on the GBA were SNES ports...
>>
>>377247794
There's another similar thing that happens with The Goopy Inferno, where you can swim to the little inlet island in the middle of the village and splash water all the way to a platform.

I still have no idea how you're meant to clear this shit level anyways.
>>
>>377247982
Are you talking about the one in Pianta Village?
You have to drop down below where there is a system of rafters that you hang from and you go through them and them pop up at the base of the gold mushroom where the Mayor is.

Don't you care about knowing why you like the games you like? You won't ever learn beyond the surface level if you discard games the moment you finish them once. I guess you treat games like junk food. I wouldn't want to know what your favorite is, since I can chock Mario up as partially nostalgia.
>>
>>377251703
I try to enjoy something as throughly as possible the first time. For example I finished Persona 5 in 130 hours when I know lots of people who only took 90 or less. I really liked the game, but I'm not about to spend another 70+ hours to replay it. I like to listen to soundtracks or watch the biggest moments on youtube after I've finished a game.
>>
>>377252964
P5 is on par with a VN of course you wouldn't want to replay that, what a terrible example.

I've seen people finish it and start a NG+ immediately, which is madness to me even though I really liked the game.

Anyway, it was just an example to say that I don't "treat games like junk food". I like to savor them. And when I'm done, that's it. You can't replay a game for the first time again so there's no point in trying to relive that. I'd rather have my perfect memory which I relive through key scenes and listening to the OST.

>>
>>377253726
Replaying a game isn't wallowing in first memories, it's an heartfelt audit searching for all the reasons you love a game for and finding new reasons to appreciate a game and know how the developer approached the design. Why they did things, how small details impact the big picture, how they teach the player and how each encounter is different from the other. How the level design evolves over the course of the game and how each ability is fine tuned to feel good and exactly why they all feel that way.
You sound like you're insecure about your favorite game, like the first playthrough is everything. As if knowing a spoiler completely RUINS the game FOREVER. You're not that fickle, are you?

I legitimately feel sorry for people that didn't know you could walk along the rails and go back to the beginning where a new leaf would spawn.

I think he's saying if you get a Game Over because of how easy it was to die in that level.

The one thing that DID piss me off, though, was the pipe at the end. I thought the pipe would just set me back to the start (didn't find out about the rail thing until later). That was just dumb game design, why would anyone want to quit the level and go back to the hub, especially if you knew what you had to get through to get to the level in the first place?
