The difference in SMT4: A is that you get instantly revived no matter what, so people will call it 'easy' despite the actual fights being way harder than most other mainline titles.

honestly it's dumb, all fixed save points do is waste your time if you get ambushed by a bunch of demons with insta kill spells. adding tension to normal encounters that might make you waste hours of game time is a mistake, instead, encounters should be difficult, running should be difficult, and bosses should be difficult. IV: A didn't do the best of jobs at this but it certainly attempted.

Trafuri is a weird spell because it kind of makes the game too easy but it makes the game too much of a pain to play without - maybe they should make it a late game skill for future titles. In any case I only used it for hordes in apoc, I really hope those don't ever return

Playing through DDS1 for the first time right now and just finished the final Lupa scene. I'm not in love with everything the game does, but it can have some really good storytelling.

Digital Devil Saga for something closer to a standard JRPG, Nocturne to find out what all the fuss is about, Strange Journey for a fun dungeon crawler with a mix of really good and really annoying dungeon design with mostly easy combat, and IV A for a decent refinement of IV, assuming you're not sick of it.
