It's because they don't play games the same way you do. I assume you do it for enjoyment, they do it for mastery. It's the same for playing an instrument, sports, whatever. You do the same shit a gazillion times until you're the best at it. The fact that the actions you do are repetitive doesn't matter when what drives you is seeing yourself improve at doing those actions.

They either do actually go insane, or they are speedrunners that are truly dedicated to their game(s), and became speedrunners since they never wanted to move on from them.

Doing it as a profession where you speedrun 40+ hours a week does seem awful though. Hobbyist speedrunning seems like the way to go.

Plus, they like to show off. Speed-running = repeat until beyond got gud levels of skill and into, "shit hax?" levels of skill.

Granted, they could actually learn something productive and shit and impress people that way, but it's more fun to shoot the same alien thousands of times in the nuts and between the eyes over and over again, than to go outside and do actual shit.
