It is probably the highest-quality casual game ever released. Overwatch is not for you and me as serious, albeit perhaps obnoxious, longtime video game players.

Overwatch is bland. In small doses it can be a nice escape from other games, playing as a dedicated healer can really make a difference, same as an effective support/tank/DPS. It's polished, runs smooth but it's more than a little soulless.

It's not popular on /v/ because vocal, articulate autists such as myself find it incomparably dull and unfulfilling, and most of the unique or fun characters are utterly outclassed by what are, sadly, hyper generic approximations of better game mechanics with big butts.

It's not a bad game, but it's not a particularly good one, either. The most comparable title I can think of os Battlefront 2015: All style, no substance.

But what I hate, what I fucking HATE is that every time you start the overwatch application, it plays this obnoxious cutscene wherein pic related snorts and chews in your ear rambling on about meaningless scifi garbage.

It's a shitty cinematic and I fucking hate that I have to hear this ape slurping in my ears EVRY TIME I START THE GAME.

It stole a ton of things, ideas and mechanics mostly, from games that /v/ does like, such as TF2, Tribes, really a lot of classic games that /v/ drools over. It had a lot of promise to become the new TF2, a classic style FPS that would blow modern games like Battlefield or CoD out of the water.
It then took these ideas to make a completely trash video game, that pandered to the lowest common denominator of normies and gamer girls. The only way it could pander harder is if it had an anime style, everybody was a girl, and there were panty shots every where. /v/ hates games like this, the game equivalent of a modern Hollywood film that jumps on trends to make a terrible, forgettable movie; Overwatch is the game version of the Emoji movie, if you will.
Combine that with it becoming the most popular game on Reddit and Youtube since Skyrim, and /v/ hates it even more.

The game is very polished as far as visuals and flare go, but the game itself is very boring mechanically. It's fun with friends, sure, but the game isn't really that fun long term. The game is about barriers, healing, and cooldown management and that's why the maps are all filled with choke-points. Characters with fun mechanics are largely less valuable than mechanically solid characters like soldier and the guns all feel mediocre in general. The game just doesn't feel like a shooter; it's a moba with some gun play.

/v/ is autistic about what video games should be. In the 90's, anything that was interactive and had you do things with a controller and keyboard was a game.

Nowadays to them, everything has to follow genre rulesets like a religion. Something like Overwatch is bad because it's too video game-y, it's not cinematic enough to some, not hardcore enough to others, not tactical enough for others

They can't accept that games can have whatever gameplay they want and it's okay as long as it's fun, fully interactive and not buggy

Overwatch is by no means a bad shooter, but just the balancing, maps, and characters is just more towards casuals than hardcore people.
TF2 has the mechanics of one but the 6s community is cancer and highlander is cancer aswell.
Quake champions might be a good bet but who knows what they are going to do to fuck it up.
Dirty bomb is good but playerbase is low and some characters can fucking bullshit.
Paladins is a better overatch gameplay wise but visually is less polished, but it is made by hi-rez so watch out for it's future.
CS:GO is big but fucking dreadful and littered with bad hitreg and spread rng.
Honestly it's a potluck so have fun.

Also, Overwatch really lacks depth vs other modern games. Plus team-objective games communities are always 90% cancer. Look over the nice authentics and polished gameplay you find that there's very little to keep anyone playing.
