ITT: Great characters trapped in bad games
>>
The fuck is that supposed to mean? Aren't good characters what make games great?
>>

Oh Anon....

>>377227476
no, good gameplay makes games great. characters are just there for casuals and normies so they can pretend to like games when really they like stories.

I wouldn't say the game is bad , but the story and writing and pretty fucking awful
>>377227476
Characters are lifted from the books, and many are very badly translated

>Bad games

What a boring meme. The only issue with the game was the fighting, which was a tad bit repetitive. Other than that most of the quests were cool AF, the world was interesting and everything is great. Stop with this overused meme.

I think you have this backwards

Geralt is great. Ciri is best girl. My only complaint about TW3 is just about every enemy in the game used the same basic attack pattern, fistfighting was bullshit with the AI blocking (all it did was drag out the fight), and Geralt could only romance Yen or Triss. Maybe I wanted another sorceress. Maybe I wanted that milf dutchess from the blood and wine DLC, or the blonde witch in Velen, or the redhead from the stone heart DLC, or Ciri[/spoiler.]

The combat is riddled with technical issues, a far more overshadowing aspect than the lazy enemy design/lack of variety in the combat itself.

The main story was very poor. Most of the quests were neat, especially when compared to the competition, but they're plagued by Witcher Senses and no puzzles. Most quests end in a fight or a discussion with a one-off nobody character, and the fighting is just plain bad.
The game is very immersive as a Witcher simulator. To that end I'll have to take Geralt's word for it; Being a Witcher fucking blows.

Oh and exploration/the overworld. No, I don't mean the Points of Interest or the fact that they're marked on your map, the world itself is just very drab. It's very horizontal, and there is very little in the way of locales to explore, or reason to explore them for that matter. Even the setpieces for the main quest, or the character side quests, are very boring. The architecture of the world is very generic fantasy, and contrasts heavily with the magical and otherwordly characters.
The handling of the characters is also very bad. You see I went into TW3 knowing nothing about the Witcherverse, and assumed I'd be completely lost. As I played through the game I expected to be confused about who the characters were, or why they were doing what, or their relationship with eachother, but the game handles it pretty neatly. It sells that newcomer attitude, even though I didn't really want it to.
My main issue in that regard is Geralt and Ciri's relationship. Even if you had played TW1 or TW2, their relationship makes no sense. It is briefly introduced, and expanded in an optional therapy session with Geralt exclusively, but other than that you never see their relationship blossom, not until the very rushed final act. Geralt talks about these amazing adventures they went on in what was otherwise a short amount of time, that ends with her saving his life, but you never actually get to experience it...

You can say that again, reminder CD Projekt drones defend this.

Threadly reminder that the anon with an autistic hate boner for TW3 is a fucking roach.

Anna Henrietta is still hung up on Dandelion
Shani is a Field Medic, her life is too different from Geralts to make a relationship work
Keira Metz cannot into love and only ever uses sex as a weapon

The game at this point assumes you've read the books, despite the games being written and sold as standalone.
So you've got all of these characters who are well established, both in this adventure and the predecessors, but none of them are really a main character. Geralt is the protagonist, but against all attempts he is written to be disinterested in the plot, and since we're doomed to follow him we miss the exposition in favor of his obsession with Ciri, a factor that only Geralt in the books has, and the player (regardless of TW1 and TW2) doesn't.
Geralt ignores Eredin, ignores Avallac'h, ignores the White Frost (not that that was ever going to be explained anyway), and has no development until the epilogue, and only in one of them. A story with a protagonist that actively refuses to have characters tell him the story is unheard of. The only counterbalance would have been the drama between characters, and that works for awhile, until you actually find Ciri. Then the game declines rapidly, until everything prior is stained with the revelations.

It's just a really poorly written story from all angles, and why it is such a waste of what is otherwise a fantastically designed cast with unique personalities.
