Its alive and well in smaller titles, but this has been always true going back to the 80s. Flip side is that it is largely dead in bigger budget games.

AAA games are way to much of a risk for businesses anymore. They're costing as much as Hollywood movies now. Can't risk that type of cash on an artistic idea.
Don't forget, videogames are a business and risk has to be calculated.

Major games are designed by market testers and boardrooms in order for developers to meet publisher expectations. Publishers either get their money from the producers who have their own market researchers who tell the producers what they should go for to get the most money out of their product.

Market researchers are the most retarded people on Earth, most of them are communists and have absolutely no shred of creativity or even the skills necessary to be good at their jobs. They usually get the work the same way roadcrews get their workers: nepotism.
This is why the media is over-saturated in Jews despite being an extremely low population and why it seems those Jews are the reason for making everything shit: they're inexperienced greedy morons that got their job because Daddy Iger owns Disney or because Uncle Weissman is a big name producer.
