Souls games aren't perfect but they're generally passable if not great games. They're good japanese takes on western stuff as well as west inspired japanese media (If you want to believe that souls is mostly liberally taking ideas from Berserk).

Deck13 makes subpar souls clones that generally miss the point of a good souls game and come with shit aesthetics, bad animations, very little environment variety, bottom of the barrel voice acting and rather mixed gameplay design where there are some good ideas (Limb targeting for instance) drowning in well established ideas that are poorly executed or are bad to begin with (The basic mechanics of souls, shit tier ideas like crafting and gems).

So LOTF sucked, this sucked, and Hellpoint is going to suck based on the demo. How long before someone makes a competent souls clone?

Played for 3 hrs, got bored, will never touch it again.

I think they were onto something (decent combat, animations, level design), but my god, it has no personality at all. Story is the most monotonous, drab, generic sci-fi plot, environments, again, generic and repetitive. Weapons, gear, etc. all feel very samey. 'Levelling up' is basically pointless, no real way to craft your own character (no creator either), repetitive enemies, bosses were a bit basic (well animated tho).

Hopefully they learn from it, though. From what I've heard it's a big step from their previous game, and if they could do the same again for their next one, I think they'd have a good one on their hands.

Also, in Dark Souls there's at least some semblance of a plot, progression through the world, and knowledge about said world is divulged mostly through item descriptions and the rare piece of dialogue that's not just [Dubious Grandma laughing for 5 minutes; unskippable]. In The Surge, there's nothing. Nothing makes you feel involved in the story or in the world you find yourself in. You got audiologs scattered through the world, but they're meant to convey a personal touch, rather than elaborate on the things around you in greater detail.
