I want to get into GS games. Should I start with EU 4 or CK 2?
What are the differences? Whats the better game?
>>
do you prefer early modern age and roleplaying as a nation, or medieval period and roleplaying as a king?
>>
>>377210919
The easier one to learn on is easily EU4 if you've never played any GS games. CK2 is arguably better but Paradox has released a fuckload of DLC for both so be prepared to pay out the ass regardless.
>>
>>377211061
the latter

>>377211143
do I need those dlc or is the game enjoyable without them?
>>
>>377211143
Well as you seem to be leaning towards CK2 I believe the DLC to be pretty important to the game. You'd have to ask someone else if certain packs are more important than others, i bought them all at once so i've got little idea on what feature was in what DLC. I'm sure if you do some research you'd be able to drop a few and save some money.
>>
>>377210919
CK 2 is not GS, it's porn game in disguise

Eu4 is easier to learn, but if i had to choose id pick ck2 cause its better
>>
>>377211423

Some would say EU4 is unplayable without the DLC.

What era of history are you most interested in?

I'm asking because if you're into WW2/cold war you can get Darkest Hour for super cheap and it doesn't require add ons, has great mods and is the best HoI game.
>>
>>377210919
CK2 is better but it does require a majority of its content DLCs to be fun (some are unrealistic, others are pure evil, but the majority of them are good)
Just wait until the next sale and pick the game up when it's on sale for 66-75% off

They're both casual games. Doesn't matter which you go with. CK2 is slightly easier than EU4 tho.

I find CK2 to be a better game, whenever I play EU IV there's always long stretches where absolutely jack shit happens, especially in the late game.

Not to mention that the AI doesn't give a fuck where it expands so you get France becoming a worm and going all the way to Korea in a straight line.

nope; Vicky 2 is the best, but rather hard to get into.

>>
>>377210919
It doesn't matter what you pick OP most gs games have their own mechanics. Just choose the one about the time period you are interested in the most. I started with HOI3 and it still took me a lot of time to learn EU3 or vicky II.

>>377213941
It is not so hard to get into. It the same as mastering a civ game, you need to understand what you are doing and what you should be doing in any given situation. And it helps that the ai is utterly retarded.
>>
Do you think Stellaris counts? Expanding from scratch, tile improvements, etc. obviously make it more of a 4X, but I still feel like it scratches the same itch having real time with pause and allowing others to integrate into your empire and such.
>>
>>377216552

Stellaris definetely counts

I would say its much easier to get into Stellaris than HOI or EU or CK.
>>
>>377216656
Yeah, starting on one planet with one fleet, one science ship, and one construction ship makes it a lot easier to get into than being thrown into an established country that might already be at war, or destined to be at war soon. That's why Civ5 was a good entry point for me for the other side of strategy, opposite StarCraft and AoE. Now I can pick up any 4X or Grand Strategy and learn the basics in no time, when it used to give me a headache at first.
>>
>>377211985
>Not pirating them
>>
>>377216552
yes and no, Stellaris is hybrid between grandstrategy and 4X, for example the combat takes the worst from both. But the main issue is that Stellaris was published quite unfinished and it will take several more DLCs to be fully playable. (The best current space grandstrategy is imho Distant Worlds)
>>
>>377210919
ask yourself if you enjoy more being in control of a nation (EU4) or being in control of a dynasty (CK2)?
They do different things, if you enjoy carefully plannign trade routes and which third world nation to colonize for money go with eu4, if you enjoy political marriages and having 12 bastard children that might come to bite you in the ass go ck2
>>
Im interested in these, which would be the best beginner friendly game for forcing all of the globe into becoming portugals bitch?
>>
>>377217509
I feel like Endless Legend combat is actually the worst and I'm glad it's nothing like that. I really don't mind just clicking on a weaker enemy and letting them duke it out in a strategy game like this. My role in the combat was building and upgrading the ships.
>>
>>377217560
EU4 would probably be the best, though I never tried playing as Portugal yet. Have you played any 4X games? It seems a little easier to get into if you have, you'd already be used to a million numbers at the top of your screen and can relate them to Civ or something.
>>
>>377217560
Europa Universalis is the game for you
>>
Buy the base game so you get access to the forums and all the patches then pirate everything else.
>>
>>377217389
>living in a first world country
>>
Just want to drop in and say that the nation designer feature in eu4 is pretty neat and id recommend noodling with it if things are getting stale but you still like the game. And remember you can make more than one so you can make up whatever alt history you want, and if you dont mind useing console commands you can bypass the size limitation by vassalizing or annexing another custum country youve made up with the same culture ect. as you. One fun one i did was replaceing the ottomans with the nation of Constantinople. I just made the initial country, then divided up the rest of the territory with other custom christian greek countries and then either used console commands to vassalize/annex or just conquored them since virtually no cultural differences makes it easy to integrate the old fasion way anyway
>>
why can't you add wargoals in ck2?
>>
>>377220331
Because apparently nobody in the whole world in all of 500 years ever considered taking more than a single province from their enemies even after winning crushing victories.

t. paradox
>>
>>377220525
It doesn't make any sense, especially since you can do it in vicky2
>>
>>377221729
SHUT UP ANON.

SO WHAT IF I JUST UTTERLY CRUSHED THE PETTY KINGDOM OF MERCIA IN A WAR THAT WILL TAKE THEM DECADES TO RECOVER FROM, MAKING THEM UTTERLY UNABLE TO RESIST MY MIGHT?

I MUST EITHER CHOOSE BETWEEN TAKING THE PROVINCE OF BEDFORD, OR A SINGLE BISHOPRIC IN KENT WHICH THEY SOMEHOW OWN DESPITE ME HAVING THE REST OF THE HOLDINGS.

TAKING BOTH WOULD BE ILLEGAL.

AND IF THERE'S ONE THING THE MIDDLE AGES ARE KNOWN FOR IT IS THE STRONG SYSTEM OF INTERNATIONAL LAW AND NORMS THAT GOVERNED IT.
>>
>>377221926
>be powerful kingdom A
>shit weak kingdom b attacks me for a province
>turn around the war
>can't just annex them
There's no good reason for it, and there never will be
>>
>>377217389

this. holy fuck you can pirate them and make them valid on steam.

What even is this board anymore?
>>
>>377210919
I like CK2 more because you have to manage both your land and your family dynasty

how do I do this
>>
>>377222124
the rigidity of the Casus Belli rules annoyed the shit out of me, have they changed it at all with DLC or anything? Or are there good mods?
>>
>>377217560
Portugal is a powerhouse in EU4 so long as you don't do the stupid shit the AI does. Build a fuckhuge colonial empire in the Americas and don't rush to Indonesia. Seeing Portugal colonizing fucking Guam while Brazil is practically untouched makes me very mad.
>>
>>377222849
shattered world allows for aggression wars, which generate a lot of infamy but let you go crazy. Problem is is that the AI goes fucking insane and declares war constantly
>>
>>377211143
Just pirate the DLC its easy.
