They weren't THAT bad, we're they?
Yes. Yes, especially they got caught on rocks and kept you mysteriously in combat forever. Or when they didn't descend, making you have to do a ritual dance to entice them downward if you were a meleefag. Also, diseases and blights.
They're still slightly less annoying than your average JRPG random encounter, though.
I honestly never had that much of a problem with them. Really don't get the meme.

I only hated when I couldn't sleep.

They were so bad that according to canon some guy just stood up, brought them near extinction, and got canonized for it.

All hail Saint Jiub, eradicator of the winged menace
All hail St. Jiub

Playing through the game again at the moment and I can't travel anywhere without bumping into about ten of them.
>>377201260
when you're a low level they rape you
>>377203726
You see more of them on higher difficulties I believe
>>377203854
I'm sure I'm playing at the base difficulty. I am about level 25 though atm, they seems to travel in packs of a bout 3-4
>>377203939
It might have something to do with your level too. My brother was playing recently and he turned the difficulty up when he started to feel overpowered and he started to see more of them at once.

Let's do this
For I am CHIM as fuck
>>377209789
what lowering down the aggression of common critters like rats and racers has to do with that?
Considering how awful the combat is overall in the series for first playthroughs without prior knowledge of what exactly to do, yes, they were fucking awful.
