The way poise works in DS3 is that you need to be in the middle of an animation for poise to kick in. When you're not attacking, you have no poise, so people can't just turtle and take hits without consequence.

Now, once you do initiate an attack, the amount of poise damage an enemy needs to inflict before stunlocking you is based off both the enemy's weapon and the weapon YOU are using. So if you're using an ultra-greatsword, you can tank more hits than if you were using a rapier. The armor you're wearing also helps you tank more hits.

Also, I just realized how autistic this shit sounds.

I don't even care about the i-frames. What annoys me is that every time I roll away from an opponent I get backstabbed because you recover facing the wrong way.
