Bloodborne is by only the others souls game, but it's not a terrible game. Bloodborne is extremely good but I still prefer Dark Souls 3. The lack of stats in Bloodborne, especially equipment load, makes it a bit of a turn off. I really enjoy the variety of playstyles in the Souls games but that's not nearly as possible in Bloodborne. I'm really hoping that Bloodborne 2 introduces some kind of equipment load or at least more stats to add more diverse to playstyles. On the other hand, Bloodborne's much more streamlined approach no doubt made it an easier game to develop as well as a much, much easier game to get into than the other games so From would be making a bold move be adding these little nuances of depth as they would no doubt turn off some fans.

It took me 10 days to get platinum in one of the easiest games in the history of gaming franchises. Seriously each area following the "chosen hunter" and his excessively buffed weapons from assorted game locations as he fights brainless enemies has been less engaging than the last. Aside from the handholding, the game's only consistency is providing you with absolutely retarded, unchallenging mobs and allowing you to run through all of them without any combative motivation thoughout the entire game. All to make the difficult feel easy, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when From Software voted to make the game a PS4 exclusive; they made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody. just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for the souls series. Bloodborne might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the normalfag game in its refusal of challenge, skill and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The enemies were easy; the bosses were unfairly hard. As I played, I noticed that every time a enemy went for an attack, he spent an unrealistic amount of time telegraphing an attack.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every second the enemy stretched his arm back. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope a several dozen times. I was incredulous. Miyazaki's mind is so governed by outdated game design philosophies that he has no other style of challenge. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Dark Souls by the same Kevin-V from Gamespot. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are playing Bloodborne at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to play the Star Wars Jedi Knight." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "Bloodborne" you are, in fact, trained to play Jedi Academy.

Imagine BB2 taking place in another city or country but you can choose to wake up in another world, and that world/city is the entirety of Yharnam from Bloodborne 1. And to get all the BB1 weapons you have to revisit every area again.

Not many people can see the Forbidden woods and other Bloodborne maps in morning time anymore. Since Fromsoft patched the map skip and you can only reach the place in midday or night now.

To be quite honest DaS I felt like it concluded it's story in 1.

Bloodborne, while it also concluded its story quite nicely, still has a setting that lends itself well to sequels.

There are always more cities in the same setting that might be affected by other great ones or random lovecraftian fuckery that they can spin narratively any which way they want.

Essentially the base world being a ruin or a collapsing city and you visiting dream-worlds is easy as shit to reformat just to another location within the same setting

Not him but that's a painfully stupid thing to say. Poise, equip load and armor are all a core part of the game's combat system regardless of whether you consider it fair game or not (which; by the way it is, considering FROM put it there.)

Equip load is there so people with super high amounts of armor and poise can't play aggressively or dodge attacks as easily as people wearing less.

Some don't wear armor at all to be as fast and aggressive as possible, some wear combinations that look cool to them and it happens to be bulky, and some people purposely wear maximum armor and a shield to feel like a tank, it's called having 'options'.

There always is. More locations and characters exist than the ones present in the first installment. Games are not a flipbook with 5 characters and settings, they're universes with thousands of possibilities and the sooner people realize that, the sooner they can enjoy any sequel ever.

When you make a universe you have to put shit into it that makes it not only feel believable, but dense enough to be believable, and while Bloodborne accomplished a lot of things it's a very condensed world. A sequel would make it larger and whether that makes it better or not is an entirely separate factor than it just being a sequel at all.

People seriously believe that sequels are failures just for existing and that it's some inherently bad thing because you've seen it done poorly.

I feel like none of these fuckers know what worldbuilding is. It's not just immediately perfect when you introduce the main plot in the first game.

I played the games as they released, in the order they came out. Yes that means I played Demons Souls before Dark Souls was ever announced. I think I discovered /v/ slightly before Dark Souls came out, because I got that game on release.

Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne are the best in the series, followed by Dark Souls and then Dark Souls 3. I don't rank Demons against the others, it's obviously the worst since it pioneered the series. I think anyone who claims Demons Souls is one of the better games is only doing it because they like it's story, setting, and tone the best which makes it more compelling to them. I don't care about story, setting, and tone when discussing which video game is best because that's entirely subjective and has no effect on gameplay.

Though if I was ranking these games based on atmosphere and lore and shit, I'd say Bloodborne is simply in a tier of its own far above the other games.

It happens, you poser. These aren't exactly action game victories, that's true. It's usually magic or smashing them with a ship while they're half a sleep. And there were equally many stories of nothing good happening when people try to do something about the monsters. Something of the stories is lost in the translation to an action, combat focused game. But acting like these horrors were always unbeatable just on principle is a poor understanding of the stories. Humanity could win in the short term as much as it lost, it was the overall nature of the universe that was beyond them. Most of the time, the monsters neither won nor were defeated. They just fucked up the narrator and everything continued on as it was.

Some of lovecraft's best work involved weird dreams and dream worlds. Bloodborne is one of the few works that even attempts to work that angle in. This isn't even getting into the stuff in Demon/Dark Souls that have pretty recognizable references to his stories. A weird, expansive habitation deep below a castle full of deformed humans and cannibals? All those fucking rats hanging around? The helpful talking cats? The general theme of a higher, lost past civilization that has degenerated into the present? Someone on the team, if not Miyazaki himself, has definitely not just read Lovecraft but also the stories beyond the famous cosmic horror and tentacles.

That said, I don't think it's the best Lovecraftian-themed work. I just think the whole gamut of the Souls series is the only one that really tackled the variety of stuff Lovecraft wrote, not just the famous bits.
