3 was straight up rpg. with fetch quests. One was a monster raising simulator and 2 was a random dungeon generator. I think 4 was the worst the tried to do a Dark alliance type game where you can't switch weapons till you leave the dungeon.

I loved 1, but I'll be the first to admit that it's almost completely due to nostalgia. The game was perfect for a pre-teen that had no idea what the fuck was going on and just liked exploring an untamed world with his monster buddy, but that's not what I look for in games anymore.

I'll definitely pick up Next Order at some point, but I'm much more looking forward to Hacker's Memory.

And infinitely less grinding or gear/items in the mid/late game that speed up the grinding by a lot (A LOT). The combat is pretty much the worst thing about the game, even the 3D models are hideous compared to the gorgeous sprites used elsewhere. I honestly wish they just reused World 2 assets for it.
