Then why am I getting routed through Sacarmento before the time-out? I live on the East Coast. I should hop from the closest major exchange (Philly) to West and South before arriving at Texas. If you look at the traceroute again it pings and times out all over the place not just Sacramento. The servers aren't up for another 8 hours and could be delayed even further if something comes up. When they're up and people can log in and find the actual IP address of Primal/Aether (for all we know they changed their IP and host when they moved across the country) then we can figure out.

I feel for you guys, I really do, but I can't help being just a little sad that I'll have to deal with higher pings again. It was a nice change of pace to have <70 ping on a game I enjoyed. I'm not going to curse SE or wish death on Californians or cry about it, but I'm a little bummed all the same. If you played a game that finally had servers close to you, then decided to relocate to China or something, you'd be kind of put-out too.

The people threatening to unsub for +50-60 ping when they're still below 150 or so are fucking childish. I played LoL with 120~150 ping for a while thanks to peering disputes with my ISP and back bone services and it was still playable. The dropped packets were more damaging than the latency itself. Honestly, if I lose less packets connecting to the new data center, my experience might improve regardless of the increased distance. Fucking Level3.

I would be playing FFXIV instead of WoW, but I've played WoW for so long its second nature.

To the people complaining about ping, look into gaming VPNs like mudfish or pingzapper. Back before ninja mudras were fixed I was struggling with 100ms ping. Using pingzapper cut my ping to 60ms

This game is heavily story driven, and has a great deal of cutscenes.
Now, what is one of the main complaints about these cutscenes? That our character, the Warrior of Light, does an awful lot of standing around doing nothing, while a bunch of NPCs do the cool shit.

Why is this? It's not because they don't want to animate for multiple Job actions, no.
It's Lalafel.

Here, some scenarios.

Scenario A) WoL finds an injured young woman, who can't walk, in the woods. Now, our warrior of light COULD pick the young woman up in their arms and carry them back to safety.
But they can't do that.
Because a Lalafel can't do that.
They're too fucking tiny.
So to compensate for Lalafel being tiny little shit faggots, some other NPC gets to be the hero while our proxy just nods and gives a thumbs up.

Scenario B) Invasion! The Garleans are invading Ul'dah, and oh no! One of the portcullis leading out of the sapphire exchange is broken! But don't worry, the WoL is here to lift it up using the strength of the mother crystal so that all the civilians can duck beneath it to the other side!
But oh. Wait. This can never happen. Because Lalafel are too fucking short for this to actually work. Don't worry though, generic Roe Bara is here to do it. Who is he? Nobody special really, just the guy stealing your thunder while you look on shocked and give a thumbs up.

Or how about scenario C) You, a Derplander are gettting married to the love of your love, a female Elezen. Not a bad pairing right? Even if she is taller than you, you're still close enough in height that you can share a romantic kiss in front of the entire server, your bond of matromony sealed until one of you throws away your ring.
But sorry, Lalafel are too short to embrace a taller lover. So to compensate for Lalafel being shit, you and your lover instead ascend high up into the sky and suffer a peck on the lips using magicked wings.
Shit, that actually happens.
