Big Boss at no point went nuclear. He got mildly annoyed sometimes.

Big Boss managed to lift up Metal Gear Zeke without any cyborg enhancements.

The point of Big Boss is that he wasn't even that good, he was just built up into a legend through the spread of rumours and loose information. No one is sure of what exactly he did or didn't do. He even had the identity of another man stolen so that dude could continue to build up the reputation of Big Boss, using it to inspire soldiers all over the world.

He did beat the most powerful opponents in the entire world at the time. Skulls unit (and he beat them 3 times), Sahelanthropous, the entire Soviet 40th army couldn't stop him, etc.
