The issue here is that in heavensward areas any time you are flying in the air, all ambient shadows turn super low resolution and blurry. If you land, they will slowly refine into their proper shape. Takes about ten seconds.

If you turn on the LOD they will sharpen even in the air, but then you have shotty draw distance. The actual shadow LOD option seems to do nothing.

I can only guess this was done because of the size of the areas and the speed of the mounts, and the ps3 having trouble rendering shadows constantly. Though, I think something is fucked up with the options, anyway.

I'm on PC, by the way.

Well, if you want to level them, here's a little crash course:

First, level Weaver until you get Careful Synthesis.
This will you you know exactly how much it will take to finish a crafting job. As it has 100% success, but 90% the progress power of Standard Synth. (Which is the opposite, 90% success chances, but 100% Progress.)

For crafting: the increases in both Progress and Quality for any action are fixed upon your stats. Item status (Normal, Good, Excellent, Poor) only affect Quality increases, and with a fixed factor. (1x, 1.5x, 4x, 0.5x) And Poor will always and only be the step after Excellent.

Once you have Careful Synth, the best route is to come within one use of it to finish, and pour any leftover Durability into increasing quality for extra XP. Going from 0 to 100% HQ is a +300% increase in yielded XP.

Leves are still a decent way to level a craft. Though, not as good as they once were.

Gathering is easy, just need gear and to find a node near your level. Stuff starts hidden, which caps your chances of digging it up at 25%, but once you dig it up once that doesn't affect it again.

Fishing is slightly different, but still just get gear, find place.

There's some advanced stuff I could dump if you want to know.

But the biggest bonus to leveling your crafts is that if you have the right one leveled (depending on the equipment) you can repair it whenever and whereever you want, for the cost of the Dark Matter. Which is universally cheaper than using the NPCs.

Reminder that it's definitely okay to use Arrow if you don't draw Balance.

Zone progression is driven by the main story quest. You don't really have to grind as long as you follow the MSQ. I don't know how long it takes to go from fresh to 3.55 but it largely depends on whether or not you're actively reading/watching the story. I would recommend at least giving the story a shot though. My guess is that you could get up to the current spot in the story in a week or two if you played every night.

I've finally figured out why FFXIV's designated waifus creep me out.

EXP from MSQ alone is insufficient. If you do ever leveling instance along the way (including optional) and you do every sidequest you'll still hit the walls in 48-49, and 57-59 ranges. This is "by design" by the way, to make you do roulettes and FATEs even while leveling your first job.

People were worried that it'd be much the same with Heavensward, just having to unquestioningly fight for the douchebag church of Ishgard against the evil dragons. But the actual story turned out to be far more nuanced.

I think we'll see something similar with Stormblood. The lyrics seem to speak of the horrors and duality of war. I'd be willing to bet that, rather than just blindly teaming up with Ilberd's rebels to chase out Garlemald, we might wind up reconciling with those Ala Mhigans who grew up under Garlean rule, like the chick we see Lyse fighting a couple times in the new video.
