But like in the latest reboot, like in the first 5 or so issues they were all like "omg Cyclops did something wrong guys, we don't know what it is but know he did something wrong!" and the comics at least for those few issues when I was still reading never went beyond that.

For what it's worth though, in AvX all he did was try to restore mutants back considering how few were left cuz 'no more mutants'. Nor did he or any of the Phoenix five attempted genocide (unless Namor who acted of his own volition and flooded wakanda counts but that's not Cyclops); in fact outside that Namor thing they were getting close to making shit utopian. Xavier also was tryna fuck up Cyclops so Scott's reaction is justified.

How do you even get into the X-men comics?
It seems a bit interesting but then you read about the characters and there's like 100x universe and timelines, every character is related and got a father, grandfather, son and they even have sex with their own son from the future.
And the characters don't seem consistent at all, sometimes Professor X can be a good guy while other times he's just a manipulative asshole just using others-

Just read Ultimate X-Men or look up classic story arcs. X-Men '92 is a fairly fun place to start if you want stuff like you remember from your childhood. The real 1992 stuff was pretty much unreadable thanks to to busy as fuck Jim Lee art and crappy writing. Also Joss Whedon's stuff is fairly standalone and enjoyable.
