I agree. If it was just the letters of recommendations without the mouse puzzles, it would just be a relatively fast boss rush. The mouse puzzles acted as a little buffer/filler, and considering how spread out they were, I didn't think they were bad at all. Hell, each mouse puzzle itself wasn't too long. I literally have no idea why everyone complains about it so much.

It's the MAIN antagonists dungeon, why it it less varied than the previous fodder bosses?

Why should it get away with repeating the same puzzle just to pad the dungeons length? They were lazy to do anything with that dungeon so they just repeated the same shit, same process 4/5 times. That's not even the worst part

i got stuck before the last letter because i didnt know you were supposed to climb on the outside of the boat to find the hacker guy. i probably spent an hour going back into the last mouse puzzle trying to find a grate that would lead to his room.

The music was good. If you liked fighting this place was pretty good. Persona 5 had absolutely awful dungeon design, but I guess it's a step up from no dungeons at all.

I loved this game when I started it up, but after completing it I don't think it's really that good. The same thing happened with Breath of the Wild. Am I just jaded, /v/?

Literally yes. Even with its flaws, and even without comparing it to 3 or 4, 5 is still fucking fantastic. I'm not sure how I'd rate the three games, but they're pretty fucking close. Totally worth the wait.

When I heard that you had a route to get to each treasure, I thought you'd actually follow a path, not just skip to the end. Futaba's Palace is the only one with enemies in the way.

Yeah safe rooms shouldn't have existed at all and they should've made it so that as you progress you continually unlocked shortcuts that you would then use to reach the treasure on the day of the heist.
Kamoshida's makes me feel like that was the initial concept because the elevator takes you all the way back to the beginning of the palace even though you don't get access to it until the very end.

Same here. The only boss that's difficult is Madarame, and by a large margin too. The difficulty spike for his fight is huge.

It's the only fight that takes any strategy. Every other boss fight is just "Spam strongest attack, then guard when the boss is using it's big strong attack". Kaneshiro in particular is a complete joke. Futaba's boss is also extremely simple and overall pretty boring. The hardest thing in her palace is the Anubis that you can sometimes fight. It has no weaknesses, tons of health, and it can cast insta-kill on Joker at any point.

Okumura is a a little boring but at least it has some new mechanics to it and takes a little strategy (ie. managing your SP against the hordes of mobs, dealing with the constant Big Bang Special every other turn at the end and curing the constant Hunger being applied to you). It's not perfect but it's an improvement.

P5 was one of the few SMT/Persona games that didn't have a dungeon that made we want to quit the game. Most of them went on longer than necessary. A few floors too many and they all left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

But none like invisible wall dungeons in SMT Nocturne (candelabras?) and conveyer belt floors into warps and walking off the map in Strange Journey. Or the abandonded ship in DDS2. Or the last SMT4 Apocalpyse dungeon. I hated all that stuff.

This was at least bearable.

It's such a hard game to review. I did it in about 100 or so hours. But I think the game legitimately took about 20 hours to get interesting and also break out of tutorial mode. Then you don't get any good plot hooks until Futaba's palace. But right when you think it gets interesting the pacing falls apart.

Then nothing interesting happens until Sae's palace. But the true ending feels a little forced and obligatory. So it had some good moments, but in 100 hours it wasn't quite enough for me to say to someone who isn't into JRPGs that they should play the game. If you know P3/4 you know P5 and you'll feel the same way about it that you did the earlier games. So in that sense it is good.

But pacing is bad. It forces you through days when it doesn't need to and when it does need to do so it doesn't/

That was a guess by Makoto. The game never tells you what it was, but if it were that it would make sense. It's not brought up by the rest of the cast afterwards because there's too much important shit going on. She asks Joker too and you don't have the option to tell her, that could be because it's something embarrassing or you don't want to tell her it's the handbook because it might make her cry.

I think Akechi can actually control when and where these people die. I basically think this because the principal died right in front of the police station and you can't tell me that wasn't trying to make some sort of statement. It works out better if Okumura dies in front of a bunch of camera's because it makes the Phantom Thieves look bad, SIU's actual act of dying doesn't really serve any purpose, Shido just doesn't have a use for him anymore.

I think the fact that you see SO MUCH happening behind the scenes is probably the most frustrating part of the entire game. King Moron's death in Persona 4 really did come out of nowhere, and it hit not only you, the player, but the entire team, because you were wondering just what the fuck was going on. It was a good twist to keep you and the team on their toes. But in P5, it's like everything's spelled out for you.

P4 was definitely the worst about it. You could end up not throwing Namatame in the television, but if you picked a single wrong dialogue choice, then it would skip you ahead to a bad end, which really just fucking ruined the tension with Nanako for me, which her being alive made me cry for like, 10 minutes straight.
The true ending feels extremely unavoidable if you play the game correctly.
