Problem with PS2 is that developing for it wasn't inherently cheap compared to the competition, unlike the Wii. If you wanted to just shit a video game out the door, the low development costs of the Wii made it a no-brainer for shovelware companies.

you see PS1 and is almost an SNES 2.0, both 2D and 3D titles.
you see N64 and was the Wii of its time, "that thing" people bought and had some great games.

after the PS2 everything was about console war cancer, 3D and guide the player phylosophies, dudebros and their stupid halo and console FPS, and of course the dead of the arcade era.

it was also the best time to be a PC gamer and you could play every single game that was before this gen and on portable devices, best time to play online flash/java games, best time to play online with your budies and pretty much the apex of the internet before facebook came in ruining everything for everybody.

even if overrated, it will still be my favorite videogame era.

everybody played ocarina of time, that game pretty much defined how videogames were going to be played for the next 20 years.
i wasnt talking about game sells, but about its "toy console" status, for must people it was that thing to play pokemon games.

Nah. Platform wars are older than you think. There were probably neckbeards slapfighting over the '77 Trinity.

Gen 9, the one system so far has two decent games and they're both gen 8 ports.

On the plus side, they're both winding up on Kijiji, Craigslist, and in pawn shops like wildfire, for cheap.

Might drop $150 at some point and pick up the consoles with a couple of games each.

Gen 5 was the closest to the the Gen 2 shovelware shithole
It had amazing games but it can't carry against the shovelware
Late 2d had the potential to be the main feature of the console but they bought to the early 3d meme
I can name few games that used 3d as its fullest and everyone else did a bad job at early 3d

So I recently got a second TV (for free), and was thinking of getting some old consoles to go with it, as I don't have any right now (muh PC).

I'm planning to buy a new power bar and an RCA switcher so I can have more than one.

Besides NES/SNES, N64, NGC, PS1, and PS2 (which would also replace the DVD player), what are some good systems? My family never had game systems when I was younger, so I'm not sure what would be good.
