To be honest, I did always like that about FFXIV, exactly what you just said. That's it's like a choreographed fight. It feels really good, for me anyway, moving to and back from safety, re-positioning and trying to maximise CD's for efficiency.

I probably like it because I never got the chance to play FFXI. Maybe then I'd think it was a shallow copy.

I played last when wings of the goddess came out. It was great. They started releasing those sub-expansions and raising the level cap and making leveling a joke, and I stopped. It's not fun anymore.

It's not what it used to be, but it's essentially become soloable and it's worth exploring. You generally get a feel for what it used to be like when you do things too.
