Wasnt that at all

Basically Buds were being used as an official currency on alot of the trading sites, which meant that backpacks were valued in buds. Problem is that Buds constantly fluctuate in value, meaning 1 day they could be 28 keys and the next day they would be 22 keys. Because your backpack would be valued in buds rather than keys, which are always the same value, the value of your backpack would constantly fluctuate. And When the value of buds went dont really low like it constantly does, people panicked and sold alot of their buds, which diminished their value, which led to buds losing more value, and leading to an endless cycle until buds lost all their value.

I'd also assume the value of these currency cosmetics dropped because of the implementation of the steam trading system. Back before that shit was around, you had a max of eight slots to trade with, which is why bills hats and earbuds were turned into currency items because they were rare, limited items that weren't *too* limited and widespread enough for them to thrive as a currency.

>That's fucking sad to be honest with you familia. One (1) fucking thing in the update that isn't content
Okay, it's content you want?
We have 100+ maps in TF2, and 25% of them already go almost completely unplayed, because there are only so many players. Adding more maps is just going to get them dumped unless it's an exceptional map, which is why Valve is working on making a good map now.
We have 170+ weapons in TF2. Every single one has 2-6 stats that players have to remember exists. The more weapons you add, the more stuff people have to remember.

Additionally, thanks to custom maps and mods, TF2 has more content than pretty much any other game in existence. Just about everything you can think of has been recreated in TF2. I could trawl through community content and it would take me a lifetime to see and play it all for fuck's sake.

This is why they add hats. It's the only form of content (and just because you don't like it doesn't make it content, since many players enjoy having cosmetics) that doesn't negatively affect gameplay.
What the fuck sort of content do you suggest they add every single update that isn't going to negatively affect the game? Answer me that, you shitposting nigger.
>I feel bad for you
For playing a game with some of the most content out of any game on the market which still gets regular bugfixing updates? Are you literally retarded, or just paid?
>>
>>377067227

>>
>>377067227

i very specifically stated it costs me my time to support the game, i've got 3 or 5 hours in my past fortnight on steam of videogames and they're fucking good ones. supporting the game is as easy as populating servers and getting other rats to stay on the ship.
that nohats post is literally actually and fully right above mine, yes i can fucking see if, but your advice that i should somehow drag my cash away from the steam store and finally stop buying hats if i dislike valve economising so hard is the dumbest series of assumptions i've ever seen, as if me not buying hats would somehow change the whole environment of tf2 anyway.
basically what i'm getting at is 'no u' and 'stop post', and fuck me, way to use the bait image of 'nobody is allowed to dislike things that i like, ESPECIALLY not if they voice their opinions'.

>i very specifically stated it costs me my time to support the game
Time spent playing a good game is not wasted. TF2 is a good game. This is something you have completely failed to refute and instead you bitch about hats, which do not make TF2 a bad game.
>and getting other rats to stay on the ship
I play TF2 because it's a good game, not just because other people play it.
>and finally stop buying hats if i dislike valve economising so hard is the dumbest series of assumptions i've ever seen, as if me not buying hats would somehow change the whole environment of tf2 anyway.
No, idiot, I'm not saying you can or should change anything. I'm saying if you don't like the system don't buy from it. Nobody is forcing you. TF2 is entirely playable and good without a single cosmetic item.

Are you from South America? Because you're one dumb fucking monkey.

Your opinions are being stated as factual and are fucking wrong. Hats are not required to play TF2 and hats existing do not make TF2 a worse game.

State your opinion all you want but when you are wrong I'm going to correct you and tell you to fuck off. If you can't do anything other than make incorrect complaints about a game in its thread, you need to stop posting in the thread.

tfw quit before all this official game mode bullshit like mann vs machine, glad I did

I got too involved with trading, between unusuals and rare items it got a bit too much. It's still nice to see one of my old #1s on page 2 of mattie's inventory all these years later still though.
What killed the game for me was going on hiatus for a while due to uni, coming back to my favorite servers and them being nothing but new fucking kids. It wasn't just that day, all my favorite servers seemed to have fallen apart, people I knew still played but the communities I cherished were ruined.
>>
Back in the day tf2 idling was great. I used to run a bunch of computers that would bitcoin mine with gpus, play tf2 in sandboxed textmode idling. I was able to push ~10 accounts per machine idling. I'd have f2p accounts bulked up with items and condensed down until it would be well worth it worth to upgrade the account. I wasn't doing the tf2 stuff for money per say but its how I got thousands of dollars in steam games
>>
There's many things people would say "ruined" tf2, no doubt about it that valve made many poor decisions. But I am wondering, what do you think was the worst idea?

Personally I think it was expanding the mann co store, specifically starting with tickets. We suddenly had an item that would always be worth a set amount.

Did valve forget about their guidelines anymore?
>Obscenity: We will automatically reject any obscene items. (Don't even bother.)

>Copyright infringement: Even if you made the model yourself, if you used an existing likeness, it’s copyright infringement. We can't and won't put other people's intellectual property in our game, for the simple reason that we don't own it. They do. We will automatically reject any items based on existing intellectual property.

>Overall Tone: We may reject an item if we feel it deviates too far from the tone of TF, either by being too cartoony or too photorealistic.

>Gameplay: TF's characters have distinctive silhouettes that help a player differentiate between classes in the heat of battle. Consequently, we tend to avoid items that overtly obscure or confuse these silhouettes.

>Noisy Details: We tend to reject items that utilize a lot of fine surface details (scales, skin pores, fabric textures, super-detailed normals, etc.). We prefer items that utilize flat colors that are close to the TF color family used by the base game. Items that are fully black, fully white, or fully saturated tend to read poorly and clash with the game environment. Most TF items use a subtle vertical gradient with a subtle ambient occlusion layer multiplied over the top of the colors.

>Technical limitations: Items that require changes in character clothing or facial animation might be considered too costly to produce. Note: This does not mean that we will always refuse an item based on technical complexity. But nine times out of ten, it probably isn't helping your case.
>>
>>377074362

Valve did everything in it's power to dissuade people from playing in private servers which is the only real reason to play the game. All other reasons are more or less garbage. You don't need a competitive tryhard cancer mode because a good community server will have great players that communicate and don't get pissy over winning and losing. Vanilla valve servers are so brain dead and play all the garbage maps that it's sad to think that thats what a new player will experience. It's really no wonder why TF2 is dying a slow death.

Even recently the when I had the urge to play I really had to hunt in the new UI to find where they hid the private server browser.
>>
>>377076097
>They added the mario clone hat because people wanted it. Hell, even people in this thread wanted it

>insurgency
>ro2
Doesn't have the same skill-based movement that TF2 shines from, doesn't have anywhere near as much fun content to play with as TF2 does, and is much less populated than TF2.
>all the quakes
TF2's community competitive scene has a higher population than the total casual and competitive population of every incarnation of Quake combined.

I used to play Live a lot. I stopped around 2015 when it just became impossible to find a game below 100 ping without waiting literally HOURS.

That breaking the rules of submitting an item should make the item not be able to be added to the game.

>Q: My item just got rejected. Why?

Hell they even say:

Keys inflated because of two reasons.
1. Metal is an infinite, free resource because people can always get weapons, and Metal rarely exits circulation because nobody ever crafts hats with it. This means that Metal is constantly falling in value.
2. The community market sells keys for slightly cheaper than the in-game price, meaning that you should always buy from the market. This means that new keys rarely go into circulation, and some people use keys to unbox, taking them out of circulation.

>>377060435
Buds were only used because of the limit on how many items you can put in a trade box. You needed something rarer than keys to use as currency to buy unusuals.
After the update that gave the game the current, infinite trade interface, buds dropped because they were only sought after to trade with.

nothing, it's just e-peen. I tried a bunch of HUDs and the minimized stock HUD is way nicer looking than all of them, and there's little to no difference in performance.
The point of a HUD is to supposedly make the info pop out more while obscuring less stuff in your FOV, but I find that the bland white letters in midscreen don't do any better of a job than stock hud in lower screen, which is actually visible.
Also custom HUDs break every other time TF2 updates.
TLDR: custom HUDs are done by faggots for epeen to look like "pros"

>>
>>377077267
I'll list each rule to not break and why they should not be broken:
>Obscenity
Don't want a game to be filled with dumb shit that makes no fucking sense to be there other than to "push the limit" or to "offend people."
>Copyright infringement
Simple one. Don't want to get sued due to using the likeness of a copyrighted material and that would cost a shitton of time and money.
>Overall Tone
Is basically a lesser extreme version of obscenity but more on the style of the item rather than what it is, so like having extremely realistic hat or an extremely cartoony hat would look weird and out of place in TF2.
>Gameplay
To make sure the silhouette due to the cosmetic doesn't make the character difficult to identify, which the art direction for TF2 was basically "Even if the character was all black and no textures, due to the way they are made and look like they are easy to identify." Also to have hats not be red while on blue and not be blue while on red.
>Noisy Details
Keep shit simple and not be filled with little details and cause possible confusion on the item or pure distraction.
>Technical limitations
Don't want the hats to be slogging the game down to nearly unplayable levels for even people with pretty good rigs.

But valve has been lax on these possibly due to them wanting more cash, laziness, and also not giving a fuck cause they're so rich now they can buy their way out of anything.

just a heads up, reckoner is shit, the only thing about it that's unique (bridge) nobody likes. it's just a worse version of other good tf2 maps, with an ugly off-artstyle look that doesnt match tf2's 1960s theme.

I was like you once, kept lying to myself that the game was still good. Then the Gun Mettle update released, and I finally reached my bullshit threshold. For your sake, I hope someday you will, too.

Say my dream is to make a team-based shooter where every class has SOME form of advanced movement emchanic, even if it's a little thing like a machine gun with knockback that allows you to scale small walls, and the game is inspired by TF2, my alltime favorite multiplayer shooter.

How do you anons suggest I go about the idea of maybe adding some cosmetic items? I would never hope to add any that clash with the game's artstyle or character models, or paywall any of them. They'd just be a little extra bonus for the purpose of customizing your own character and looking nice, and something for you to find while playing and keep people a bit more interested in the game.

Should I add some sort of pseudo, small scale economy where you can trade items you don't want for items you do want? Should I implement them at all? What do you prefer, skins or modular cosmetics? Unlocks or drops? A wide variety or a smaller selection of really nice ones?
>>
>>377084182
People who idled didn't get them
>>
>>377084651
So again we are complaining about cosmetics and what isn't in the game but should be, completely ignoring the state of the game itself. It's like you want to drop the game, but you can't shit on gameplay, so you pick whatever you think would be accepted to shit on.
>>
>>377085131
You want respect, you make them unlockables.
You want the game to be alive for some time longer, you make economy.
>>
>>377085217
I DID drop the game. I uninstalled and sold off all my shit after I read that
>dead players would drop ammo boxes instead of being able to actually pick up weapons for metal/ammo
>players would have the ability to swap out weapons on the battlefield when they killed the same class
>there would be unfilterable in-game skins of the same quality as shit you find made by 11 year olds on the depths of FPSbanana
This sort of shit would have been inconceivable back in like 2010.

I remember when they said that they would update MVM and add new shit fairly often.

It hurts.
>>
>>377085131
Economy keeps the game technically alive for much longer. But the community will be filled with assholes who care more for the cosmetics than the game. Servers will be plagued with idlers and bots and players will be harassed by greedy shits for trade requests.

Do you want that?

The browser was never removed at any point. You just select the Community Servers option and it opens the server browser, it's been like this since day 1 when Matchmaking was introduced.

I play OW as my "main game" now, that's not the case.
Balance patches come out between each season, which means that there's a rebalance every ~3 months. New characters come along with that. During those 3 months, best you can hope fore is a single map, or new cosmetics.

No, it doesn't. I get an average of 250 fps in a normal game of TF2. In OW, I can only get an average of 70.
Biggest thing unoptimized about TF2 is the hitreg, honestly
>>
>>377085131
There's a scale between the people that actually like playing your game not wanting cosmetics to be too out of control, and the players that would actually buy them wanting them to be insane. It's up to you where you land.
As for economy, sort of the same thing; people that like the game would enjoy a nice little trading system to get the items they think are best, the people that bring in the money will want an in game economy and ways to make money by selling pixels on a screen.
