Lords of the Fallen at least had some nice graphics for me to fawn over (until you play past the 3rd hour and realise the environments are tiny, boring and the designs are boring despite being technically impressive). This one looks dull from the get go. I'm also really hating the constant slow mo on every single hit you make. I can understand those happening on critical hits or backstabs or parries and shit but every single hit? Come the fuck on.

From what I've seen (from TB's video). Combat is more deadly in the sense that you can die in 3-4 hits from normal enemies. Looks very melee focused with ranged options used as a counter to enemy ranged options (drones) due to the way you have to generate power (mana) from fighting to activate it.

The biggest draw of The Surge would be the theme change from all the other medieval Souls. Hopefully it's decent.

Game apparently only have 5 bosses, and depending on how much you explore/die, you can expect maybe 20 hours of gaming start to finish.

Maybe 15 or fewer hours if you've played souls-like games before and don't rush everywhere and actually play cautiously.

Honestly, the game isn't bad for what is there, it's just not a lot of it. But if you feel like that's too little game for you money, it's not exactly an amazing game you can't miss.

It has bonfire mechanics, souls mechanics (that disappear permanently if you don't retrieve them after you die within a set amount of time), same control layout and fog doors for bosses with a few differences in combat and gear. Souls can also be banked at the bonfire and flasks heal instantly even in mid combat.

I played MEA over 80 hours just to finish the game with a lot of things done and I was happy that there weren't any more planets.

If the game has a great world with a perfect story, the 5 bosses are more than enough. I normally hate bosses because all bosses work the same.

Nioh was pretty alright. The problem with Nioh being an OK game is it encourages shittier devs to take a stab at these types of games.

Really enjoying it so far, interesting setting and the combat feels great, I love how everything combos with each other, feels really smooth. Animations and graphics are on point as well.

Never played lotf but it looked generic as fuck and so far this seems like a huge improvement by the devs so props to them. Only an hour in though so gotta see where it goes.

Can't wait for From to do a future setting, if they make a Bloodborne 2 I'll actually be pretty disappointed.

I'd say Nioh was pretty damn good, but as an overall experience it's an extremely simplified version of what Souls actually is. It being mission based instead of semi open word encouraging exploration dampened my enjoyment.

For a non-Souls game it was good, but I sincerely hope Nioh and The Surge aren't indicative of which direction this supposed "emergent genre" (something I'm not sold on it being) is heading, because it'll be dead in water.
