Don't bother with Alchemy unless you play on the higher difficulties. It's the most boring skill tree imaginable, that offers nothing but passives.

If you want the best ending, pay close attention to how you treat Ciri.

Quests stop giving you experience if you're too high a level for them.

If you're playing on PC, get the no item level requirement mod. Makes the game 100x less insufferable.

a played on Death March+ a year after I hadn't touched it on a NG+

Enemies were rarely damage sponges but that may just have been because my NG+ Geralt was an overpowered alchemy-driven killing machine who could produce huge damage numbers and I could one-shot trash enemies with a single power attack. The real danger was Death March enemies seemed to be able to whack you for a shitheap of damage so they could 2-shot Geralt, but that was okay since I only had that happen if I was being too lazy to actually move out of the way of the attack.

If you go full Signs build for easy Igni kills, be sure to respec before crossing the point of no return. Imlereth is a pain in the ass without a sword build.

Play on Death March. The game is piss-easy otherwise.
Steal everything that's not nailed down or within eyeshot of a guard.
Put some points into the alchemy talents that increase toxicity and max tolerance.
Learn the Bestiary and Alchemy and Crafting systems.
Get the Delusion Talent. It saves a shitload of coin.
Aard is OP.
Ekimmara + Archgriffin Decoctions.
You can meditate on the quick wheel by hitting X.
Don't max Shadows and Grass in the graphics settings, it's imperceptible.
Don't fuck both Yen and Triss.
Use Enemy Scaling in the options menu, turn it off when you get to the D'Jinn.
Look up a map of all the places of power and hit them soon for extra talent points.

It's a pretty decent game, even if the combat was poorly thought out.
