Played nearly 3 hours so far, loving it.

I'm not really following the story, though. (reading terminals becomes a bit tiresome after the 100th one...)

Basically goopy alien things (which I guess they created on the space station?) broke loose or some shit, and you have to blow it up to get rid of them for good.
>>
I've played for around 3 hours. Mimics are just an annoyance. Having to carefully go through every room isn't fun.

I recently got the helmet that lets you detect them, but then you have to deal with a terrible filter on your screen. I'm digging the level design, but the enemies just aren't fun.

I finished the game three times now, here's a few things I noticed that were never answered in the game that I'm wondering anyone else here knows / found out.

What was the "Evacuation?" Elazar was involved in it, but she never actually spoke to the player about it, the only things you can find out are 3 books throughout the station on it.

What was the massive space station running in the dark described in the shuttle log on the Bridge? It was a Talos shuttle headed to Talos I that was stopped, and military shuttles intercepted it or something, they noticed a huge space station running dark, is this the Argo Array / Facility that Dahl was talking about?

Why did the Volunteer shuttles disappear for 15 minutes? There was some sort of audio log that mentioned that Talos was losing contact with the volunteer shuttles for brief periods of time, I think too on the Bridge. It's never explained further as far as I'm aware.

Is Morgan dead or alive, did he die on Talos and did the actions that we witness in the simulation all occur in real life? Are they using Morgan's memories as the test basically because it's a good test on empathy due to what happened on Talos? Also, where exactly is Alex and why are Igwe, Ilyushin, Sho and Elazar operators? Did they ever actually exist, or are they like Morgan's January?

There's probably more unanswered stuff, I really hope we at least get a DLC to wrap up the story, a full fledged sequel would be fantastic hoping that is sells well enough.

>>
>>377045705
Not really rave, it's getting good reviews, but nothing exceptional. It's a shame because it's really a great game, not a 10/10 experience, it's flawed, but the story and atmosphere are perfect for me.

8.5/10 at the very least, if not a 9/10.

Finished the game. It is quite gud and easily the best Looking Glass style game out of the post 2005 crop. Compared to SS2, it's less survival horror focused on resource management, and more about open-ended exploration of an interconnected world. RPG elements and atmosphere are weaker than SS2, but level-design is as good or better, and the space station in Prey is a much better realized and believable setting overall. Combat and enemy design is better in Prey as well, though that's a necessity given that it abandons the survival horror elements and has no excuse left to be a clunky wrench-melee game. Both games are well-written and make excellent use of audiologs, and while Prey lacks the memorable antagonists of SS2, it does a better job of fleshing out its side characters. There's no Shodan-reveal twist in Prey surprisingly - there's one after the credits, but it's more like a bit of cute meta-commentary rather than anything substantial.

Where Prey definitely drops the ball is the audio - music is often ill-fitting, scary sounds play for no apparent reason, and the mixing is incredibly bad for such a high-budget game. Volume levels of dialogue and sound effects don't reflect the source's distance from the player at all, and it's impossible to track enemies based on sound alone.

Overall though, I'd say it's worth playing, has some annoying signs of consolization, but also a lot of nice attention to detail and it actually improves upon SS2 in various ways, much unlike Bioshock which was straight up dumbing down with a nice coat of paint on top.

Nullwave them.
Get the phantom shift power yourself, they'll just hit your double.
>>
>>377046469
Dunno where Trauma Center is. I'm back at the main hub and there are these two sparking purple phantoms walking around who teleport to me and two shot me. I can't GLOO freeze them and the gun does shit for damage. The only "security" I've seen is IT Security which just has two more regular Phantoms and a couple of spare parts.

>>377046620
I have no idea about anything you just said.
>>
>>377046685
nullwave is a grenade, it disables typhon powers for enemie. Phantom shift is a typhon power you can get with neuromods, makes a copy of yourself to distract enemies.
>>
>quicksave in psychotronics
>game now freezes upon load
Nice, still have time for a refund.
>>
Low FOV
Can't Disable Motion Blur
Crosshair/Cursor is not centered (lower)

Found these things weird/annoying. Luckily I'm playing on PC, so I could 'mod' them out. Feels much better to play.

Also, is the audio muffled? It was really noticeable at the beginning (music on helicopter ride sounded like it was being played through a pillow), and I can't tell if it's gotten better, or I'm just getting used to it.

Lesbians.
>>
>>377047695
TL;DR: You're a Typhon organism in a double simulation as an attempt to teach you human emotion. This is why you don't personally talk in the game and lore-wise why you can never actually see your face. Everything is planned in a certain way to try and elicit emotion.
>>
>>377047695
I don't have the store leak threadshot, so in short:
Humans found mimic aliens, started to research them, they escaped and multiplied, earth is fucked, you are the alien that humans try to brainwash by showing the life of Morgan Yu. In the end you can either kill the fatman or join humanity to reclaim earth. Prey 2â„¢
>>
>>377046379
The evacuation sounds like some kind of alien outbreak on earth, foreshadowing the events explained to you in the ending.

The shuttle disappearing thing, I think it's related to the dark station, what's strange though is that pilot of the volunteer shuttle doesn't seem to know about the station so they definitely don't dock there.

Yeah the story is pretty good but basically requires you reading through all the goddamned emails, listening to all the audiologs, and reading a lot of the books. If you do that even the "twist" at the end is readily apparent beforehand, but I'm pretty sure most people can't be bothered.

In the game, after you place the nullwave device at the heart of the Choral, you get the break in the game in which you hear Alex say something like "Injecting him with more of Morgan's cell-lines" or something. I think it's just a generic typhon and they are modifying it with Morgan's memories as the simulation progresses.

But then why does Alex say "We're going to shake things up like old times"?
I'm tempted to think it's a Phantom coming from Morgan for that reason, injecting some guy's cells shouldn't turn a phantom into that person.
If you try to escape with Alex's pod,
the game ends and you can hear alex say "We failed, this isn't the one". In my headcanon,
they're going through a bunch of captured phantoms until they find the one spawned from Morgan's body.

My favourite thing about this game is when they give you the Bowcaster gun.

This gun can hit door switches and touch screens so you can use them behind locked doors etc.

They made the security booth hatches too high to hit some screens when you duck and too low to hit them when you stand.

Shit game design.

Enemies are shit too.

Guns are shit.

It's shit.
>>
>>377050837
Foam bolts can bounce off surfaces, you're expected to use that.

So I just quite to desktop from my game as it was driving me nuts:

>Play for 8 hours.
>Game is really good so far.
>Combat felt fluid cause keyboard and mouse.
>Reach the "Get The Voice To Open The Door" main quest (echos or something)
>Get out to the exterior (Outer-space) to get the crew-quarters cause that's what the game is telling me.
>Get killed by those awful explosive mimics and that control mimic when i reach CQ cause I don't have any bullets on me.
>After killing them all somehow, I reliase that there is nothing and I the entrance for the CQ isn't there.
>Go back to the forest looking place.
>Get killed my a Nightmare after shitting my pants.
>Have no ammo, no idea where to go, and the combat is starting to show it's ugly face.

If I didn't pay 60$ I would've quit right about now. The game isn't hard at all but the combat and the story aren't really hocking me, and I think am like 60% in.
>>
>>377051793
>8 hours in enemies are still mimics

Hahaha holy shit, what is this game?
>>
>>377051913
He's calling every enemy a mimic, they're called typhons, and mimics are one type of typhon.
>>
>>377051913
there are no "exploding mimics". He meant cystoids, not mimics. You mostly fight different kinds of phantoms and technopaths in the last half.
>>

Don't bother with hacking unless you want more loot. Its almost entirely used for just opening some safes to get a bit more loot. It might pay for itself over the course of the game, but I don't know.

I would say to focus on shit that gives you more materials, combined with focusing on combat ability. Until you can kill the nightmare easilyish, you need more combat shit.

>>377052302

That being said, there isn't anything alien powers can do you can't do with a combination of grenades and shotgun/handgun shootan. The damage boosts from neuromod upgrades to weapons and timeslow get disgusting eventually. Enjoy doing sneak attacks for 400 damage and two shotting the nightmare with everything maxed.

Just finished a few hours ago. It's a lot more fun than I was expecting it to be.

I went full human (so no Typhon neuromods) and absolutely wrecked every enemy, including Nightmares, towards end-game on hard. Kind of disappointed at how easy it got.

I'm probably going to do another playthrough that's full Typhon and get the bad ending.

It's printing neuromods that makes it too easy.
You shouldn't be able to take the weapon crafting skill along with everything else.

I wanted to play an engineer kind of build but I ended up being a jack of all trades with every human skills due to printing a shit ton of neuromods.

Playing hard mode, just walked into the trauma lab and theres 2 human mimics, 1 is "???". It works with Prey because it's consistent. Even non-inventory props and bodies are good material sources with the recycler charges, which I think gives them substance in the world because you actually look at the materials they're made of.

>>377057352
Nothing, they aren't related in any way. The game was Project Danielle before Beth slapped the Prey name on it.

I keep forgetting that the game is set in like 203x. I keep thinking Cold War era, but SU and US secretly joined forces to farm ayy cum. This is why all these women and niggers are such an eyesore and ruin hard sci-fi atmosphere for me.
What makes it worse is all this flavor text about Afghan, 'nam and other shit from that era which should be if not irrelevant, but overshadowed by more modern happenings, which are not present.
Or Morgan interacting with a "volunteer" who is a soviet polit-prisoner. I need to reread stuff related to that quest (given to you by Makhaila or Mikhaella). Game mentions life-extending medicine available only to chosen few, but it's loading screen tip iirc so it's not helping. There's also health neuromod description, but I usually dismiss those as phoenix down.

On the sidenote
