seawater's not really reflective is it?
i've never seen pictures of water where it looked particularly reflective except for pictures of lakes. if you're in a life or death situation how likely are you to just sit and admire your own reflection anyway? and blick winkel did not make any plans. blick winkel was tricked and at the very end of the true route said "OK fine i'll go save those guys." you didn't meet blick winkel until the very end. i don't think she was even sure of its existence she was just hoping that the research her father had done on the fourth dimension and other shit was true.
this is all from memory after reading it years ago so i could be wrong.

I also read it a few years ago, though I remember being confused about that back then too. If it was all You's plan alone then there's no plothole. Maybe I remembered something wrong but I always thought BW told You how to trick him into doing all that.
About the water reflection, I don't think it matters if it's seawater or regular water, only depends on light and angles. They had plenty of time to not worry about their immediate safety to look down too. But this isn't really a big deal, I can go with your explanation.

Kagetsu tohya, like it says in the top right.

Something not easily conveyed by just looking at a flowchart is the genuine feeling of exploration you have to do, because choices you make in one playthrough can give you different options in completely different paths in another one and the way events can play out in any given playthrough depend pretty heavily on both this and what you did previously in the same playthrough

plotwise it barely ties into tsukihime at all because it's a fan/bonus disk that they for some reason actually tried with. the main thing you miss by not having played it recently is just attachment to the characters in more wacky scenes

>>377039527

If you replay the game lots of things become more obvious and you can see it's intended. Dates on tickets, Kaburaki acting different to Takeshi like his penchant for alcohol, Tsugumi being way more of a bitch on Kid's route because she knows something's up, etc.

Yeah, and the reason is "Advanture game" already exists and has a different meaning in the West. No one in Japan calls VNs visual novels.

Sorry, anon, but I've played it like ~4 years ago, so I can't remember much. But if you've enjoyed it so far, I'd suggest to try and finish it. Didn't play 12riven since there's no English version. You could also try Root Double. Nakazawa (one of the main writers from the Infinity series) worked on it and it's pretty good. Could also try I/O.
>>
>>377046367
i really got sick of I/O after that route with the nonstop autistic gunslinging action. i want to read root double but my toaster can't handle some of the fancy visual effects and it slows down and gets hot when i try to run it, unfortunately. one of these days i'll give it another go when i get a better computer.

most substantial vns that get fan translated get that way because those vns moved the translators enough to give them the passion to actually go through with such a massive undertaking.

I personally think that cult classics that grow popular in a small niche of hardcore consumers (and critics) are what usually end up having the most literary merit. It's how it has been with a lot of what we currently think of as the greatest novels, and it describes the current situation of VNs perfectly.

The best works challenge their readers and stand out from the rest, and that usually turns off a lot of average people who are just looking for status quo. Romeo, one of the most famous vn writers, wrote a few novels and instantly got nominated for literary awards. There are genius writers in this medium as there are in any, and you might be among the first to discover them. :p

Give you one pro-tip.

Never get involved or too involved in vn communities, in both /vg/ or /jp/.

If you end up learning moon some day, reserve discussion to jap boards and never with English boards. Never engage in deep discussions with English speakers even if they claim they know Japanese.

If you must, visit whichever community that talks about it, but never stay too much unless you absolutely have to.

If you do that, your enjoyment of VNs increase at least 10 to 20 fold.

>>
>>377060745
These circlejerk general aren't interesting and mostly depopulated, may be good if you really like one game/series but for someone who care about the medium in general it's just not worth it
>>
>>377060470
you shouldn't really engage in deep discussion about VNs period. Just read shit and take what enjoyment you can. Both English AND Japanese communities are full of trolls, autism and assholes. Any invested discussion is always an invitation for all three.
>>
>>377060861
Not at all. In 2ch, you have particular generals to discuss about a game. So people who lurk there usually are like minded people who liked the same thing you did.

In 4chan you have generals to talk about all vns so you get a mix of people who both liked and disliked and hated with 0 will to discuss the topic and just want to trash it.

That's not to say that there isn't the occasional troll that pops in the general to shitpost, but since IDs are a thing they almost always end unsuccessful.

There's an obvious advantage there, which I hope I don't need to explain or point it out further.

There is none in japanese pretty much, eroge as a medium is pretty much dead and nobody talk about anything that isn't the most obvious big stuff anymore.

Can you even mention one eroge franchise released this year that got some discussion/hype?

It's mostly circlejerking about old stuff by people who can't move on

I mean I find it funny that your only example are stuff like the shinza series aka a series that got so big it's even getting a sosshage and anime, Eve burst error a 20+ years old game that was on fucking ps+ a few months ago, GPM a pretty damn big cult and C;C that is again part of a big series and even got an anime.
>>
>>377063030
Recommended route order is Yuka, Haruka, Saki, Kurumi, then the "true" route.

Never7 is kind of a slow burn. The Yuka route has some interesting stuff going on but doesn't take full advantage of it, Haruka's actually has some decent drama and plot, Saki's is total shit and you're right to hate it, and Kurumi's is once again interesting plot. Most of the events in those routes are just slice of life with a bit of larger mystery going on in the background, but Never7 also isn't as long as Ever17, so it felt like less of a slog to me overall. The final route deviates heavily from the slice of life shit after a while and goes fully off the rails with its subject material, and completing it made me appreciate the entire VN more.

I do not think Never7 is bad, it's just the weakest Infinity entry. You might get bored sometimes, I don't know.

>BETA = Illusion beasts
Both likely share similarities to Bugs from Starship Troopers, or any bug-like alien from any work of military sci-fi with a bug war in them. GM and Muv-Luv being Japanese series just use mechs instead of power armor.
There's some other similarities (often intentional) between Muv-Luv BETAverse and Starship troopers you can make:
These songs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dNDp7vAj3E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIGHCoVzqtk
The way TSF's often operate in Muv-Luv is similar to the Mobile Infantry in Starship Troopers. Both typically move around with by using jump packs to jump, instead of sustained flight.
https://youtu.be/LpCCreUdc9M?t=38s
No video for Starship Troopers, but it probably looks something like Assault Marines in 40k.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQEde2vaCds
The conversation between Irma and Miki talks service = citizenship, another reference to Starship Troopers.
The BETA's underground hives and the BETA Superior/BETA hive reactors are similar to the bug hives and brain bugs.
Similarly both series feature orbital divers attacking those hives. Similar results to the orbital divers in both series too.

All of this is just world building and references though. Starship Troopers is about Johnny Rico becoming an officer and becoming a better citizen because of his service. Muv-Luv is a story about how Sumika really wants Takeru's dick. What's Gunparade March about anyway? I'm not too familiar with it.

Are there any resources out there analyzing VN craft? (from a more "technical" perspective than a literary/critical perspective, think film-making vs film theory). The way VNs are "directed" and "edited" to best engage the player is really interesting to me but I'd rather not start from literal square one in trying to understand the intimate details of the creative work.
>>
>>377064703
>No slice of life/ school though.
even vns that aren't slice of life tend to open with at least several hours of slice of life-type stuff as a way to establish the characters, setting, and story without getting too deep into things. like nearly every vn opens this way, it's basically just the standard way of doing things. it's usually pretty lighthearted and comedic with maybe a few tense moments here and there but nothing too drastic, then they get into the heavy stuff once everything's been properly set up.
also some of the best stuff is set in schools even if slice of life/harem/moege stuff isn't your cup of tea.
anyway, steins;gate is a good intro one, i agree with that other guy. the first several hours are mostly just them fucking around trying to figure out what the hell they made, though, and it's all pretty low tension until about the halfway point when things start to ramp up a bit.
