I have never understood the mindset of "10/10 = perfect" or "near perfect," and I know there are going to be people that are like, "You can't deny the math." Well, I'm going to deny the math, because math is fucking bullshit.

10/10 means the game is a "masterpiece," not fucking perfect. No game is perfect. And for a game to be 10/10 it doesn't even have to be "near flawless," if you ask me. That's why I say Dark Souls and Nier are absolutely masterpieces. They're not flawless, and in fact, they are both very flawed in a few aspects, but they are both still masterpieces in their own ways.

I used to think the same way but I think perfection is a better way to think about it. Games like New Vegas or Morrowind should never ever be considered 5/5 games because they're so heavily flawed in several core aspects. "They're masterpieces" is such a bizarre and vague judgement. If you can stuff arguments with "Well, I think it's a masterpiece despite it's flaws. 10/10, Ken Levine does it again." then you're just lowering the public dialogue. Not that that's what you're doing, but it sure is common. That's why Tetris and Pong will forever be the only 10/10 game.

I suppose this is true, but I guess it's just the way I like to hear people talk about the things they like. I enjoy people talking about their experiences with games and the emotions said games induced on players. The sort of emotional bonds they create with the world and its characters, or maybe the excitement they felt from the gameplay. I like to hear about the more personal part of things than I do the technical.

Not to say that people should ignore the technical part of things, though, because that shit is still important. And sometimes the technical can be so bad it affects the personal.

Actually jedi knight 2 has better single player, academy has better multiplayer so you pick.

Even ignoring this definition DaS1 is not a 10/10. Nothing is perfect, but there are many games that are much less flawed than DaS1. I don't know how anyone can look at everything passed Ornstein and Smough and call the game a masterpiece.

Wipeout HD Fury
It doesn't have quite as much depth as F-Zero GX but is much more polished with many more game modes (which are all quite good) and customize options. It is the closest thing to a flawless game I ever played.

Ninja Gaiden 2
Everything Ninja Gaiden Black had and more, one of the best action games ever made.

Super Monkey Ball
Physics based arcade game that escalates to absurd levels of difficulty. Prime exemple of good stage design.

Super Meat Boy
Best 2D platformer I ever played. Fast paced with great and short levels that provide constant challenge and action. Very good level design with multiple characters and an amazing 10/10 soundtrack.

Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix
Despite being broght down by silly minigames, it has the best combat out of any game I ever played with amazing amounts of variety and combat options, as well as very well designed enemies and some of the best bosses in any videogame.

Not gonna bother too much with the list and pretty much all of them fit in the very solid execution or atleast very concentrated design, but Dark messiah of might and magic is definately the odd one out of the list for me.
The game was pretty neat and enjoyable, but leveldesign ranged from good, decentish to boring and the swordfighting controls were very vague and clunky for the most part.
The game was pretty much carried into recognition by the earlier good levels and how they implement the physics and especially well working kicking. Once you get to the castle the game really goes downhill imho.
