Of course it was a bad game. It was a half finished game that poorly communicated its mechanics to the player and had lag stab focused pvp.

But even a bad souls game is better than 99% of the 'good' games the industry puts out.

I bought it on a Steam sale to see what's the big hype is about.

This is the shittiest port I have ever seen in my life. They didn't even bother to remap the on screen instructions, it's all circles, triangles squares and so on.

Even if I manage to figure it out, it feels like ass.

But now, even though I have a PS4, it left such a bad taste in my mouth that I have no intention to touch it ever again.

What does "clunky" mean in this regard? Unresponsive is at least a valid descriptor and the series is slightly so with the input delay and queuing, but playing more patiently can help work around it and it doesn't kill the game even if it's something they should have fixed.
Bed of Chaos is ok, not great but it's very different which should always be at least encouraged. And it saves your progress each time anyway.
PvP shouldn't be considered as PvP in these games, it's another obstacle to overcome like the rest of the level. To that end it works great for the atmosphere but both ends don't care enough about that. None of this makes the game itself bad or overshadows any of the amazing parts of it.

The controls do exactly what they're supposed to do, and they do it consistently. Not every game needs to be Devil May Cry, and you shouldn't expect it to be - slower combat pacing is not an inherently bad thing.

Everything but Duke's after Anor Londo is retarded and boring. I think the developers got a Souls burnout while they were developing the game after O&S.

It's generally agreed that DS1's pacing and overall quality goes down the shitter post Anor Londo, so I can't blame you for dropping the game if you weren't really invested in it.
IMO Bloodborne is the most focused, polished, and highest quality Soulsborne game, but tons of NEETS say otherwise because they don't want to spend $250 for one game when they would likely spend equal or more hours in it.
