I just started playing this a few hours ago, never played a tales game before.
When does it get good?
I just got the reaper pirate guy as a team mate and all the game has been so far has been backtracking. Not just a little, like literally walk for 20 fucking minutes back and forth 4 times through the same fucking levels just to talk to someone

How I play this game:

- Block all the time
- Dodge attack at the right moment
- Gain diamond thingies
- If more than 3 -> mash RT and rape everything
- If at 3 -> try some combo attacks and run around
- If less than 3 -> keep blocking and timedodge to build diamond thingies

About 30 hours into the game, that's how all my fights have gone. Playing on hard.

How does Velvet pick which final combo skill to use in her RT form? No matter what combo I use she always ends up attacking with a specific skill at the end of the beast-form combo and it seems like the skill is always the same based on the fight. Sometimes they are good but some other times they are absolute shit, can I control that somehow?

Should I finish Zestiria before I play Berseria?

I finished Zestiria but still playing Berseria so no spoilers please, just I'm a bit confused by one thing... Is Berseria happening in Zestiria universe? WTF is Zaveid doing in it?

I know that they kind of merged the two with Zestiria X anime,
which I stopped watching after they introduced Berseria characters because wtf, but is this canon?

is it bad that i just decided to set battle to auto fight?

any time i tried manually attacking i was always hit during my animation to hit them and then when i was combo'd, holding block didnt do anything(hoping there would be a moment for it to kick in during)

is there even any downside to autofighting? they seem to kick ass more then if i was controlling anyone.

I enjoyed Zestiria more gameplay and story wise, but the characters were gay as fuck (except Edna who is love). Berseria is... meh. I was hoping it'd be better but sometimes I find it's a massive chore, especially the non-boss battles. Having to wait for the attack bar to refill is a fucking pain in the ass and if you don't get a proper combo going it takes fucking ages and it's so boring, such a drudge.

No, it's boring because the battle system is bland and slow, the story is... meh (at least so far). I'm still enjoying the game and the characters are great but I don't see how people are so enamored with it. The level/map design looks also much worse than in Zestiria, lots of backtracking and tedious quests that don't really seem to fit well with the story imo.

its a corridor jrpg....i was not fucking expecting this

i kept progressing expecting to gain unlimited access to the ship since i was skipping a bunch of fights early game(was gonna come back later)
didnt fight the first code red enemy(fucked me out of a battle skill) since it wasnt explained till later aboot them and forced me to fight one.
i expected them to be endgame high level enemys(they arent)
and the game constantly locks you out of backtracking

One thing that I don't enjoy in Berseria is the equipment system. I don't recall how it was in Zestiria because I played it a while ago and already forgotten it, but in Berseria there are so many pieces of equipment that all have the same name and it becomes such a fucking chore to properly handle them in the inventory. It gets to a point where I end up just ignoring the equipment altogether for massive portions of the game and then when I get a point where I can't go on further without improving, I just spend an hour or so sorting all the crap I have and deciding who to give what and dismantling/assembling everything at best I can. I have 30+ hours into the game and still I have no fucking idea what I am doing. It's all submenus within submenus.

I didn't have that problem with Zestiria or other tales of games, but maybe it's just me.

i see no reason to bother with this shit till endgame since im not getting my ass handed to me

and the game keeps throwing equipment at me with different bonuses
im spending more time just maxing out the master abilitys

im at the point where its taking 300+ points to master so ive started fighting groups inorder to get dires since its giving me over 50 points....im also prolly overleveled for the areas im in because im mastering equipment
