Great game. Game is a lot more lively now that the DLC characters released. And considering this thing goes for like $25-30 every week on newegg or somewhere else, I'd heavily recommend you pick it up. Just make sure you find the dreamcancel and KoF discord channels before hopping online (so you can find good matches with people in your skill range.)
>>
>>377012681
Let's say. If i enjoy streets and tekken. Will i enjoy this? Even if its just mainly playing casually.

Yeah. The biggest hurdle for beginners, like Tekken, is usually the actual controls. You have four different types of jumps and rolling to account for, but once you master those and the way Max Mode works in the game, the game becomes an ocean in terms of depth regarding combos and the like. Keep in mind that playing this game on a pad can be difficult at times, but it's how I started out and I'm used to it now.
>>
>>377012883

It has more freeform movement than Street Fighter. Can't say much for comparisons to Tekken.

It actually feels like a mix of Street Fighter and Marvel. Characters usually do combos in the way of Normal --> Command Normal --> Max Cancel --> Ex/Special move juggles --> Super

The input timings are fairly lax for directions. The Normal --> Command normal timing is pretty much like a magic series in terms of timing the button presses.

Characters really vary in playstyles and combos which is what makes the game so fun. The game also has a super canceling system so you can cancel supers into each other (like marvel) but they operate in a stair-step fashion where every character has 2 regular (1 meter) supers, ex versions of those supers (2 meteres) and Climaxes (3 meteres). Generally, Regulars can cancel into EX and Climax and EX into Climax. There are some exceptions but this is the general rule. Super cancels and climax cancels look awesome in this game and make meter management a really powerful skill to have.

I highly suggest this title. The DLC characters are great too.

I actually find this game is very nice to pad players. I can do inputs for just about anything consistently other than moves that do 646 on the d-pad. But if you can learn to switch your thumb down to the stick for these inputs, they aren't hard at all.

I like the DS3 better but the DS4 is still good. Very comfy to hold and has a nice weight. The D-pad allows for very accurate articulation and inputs.

OP here. Cheers for the advice. I'll keep my eye on it. T7 is around the corner and I've been waiting for that a very long while.

Didn't the ps4 have a demo on kof xiv? Recall seeing that somewhere.

Is the game still alive on ps4? And will it stay alive? Incase i do get it at some point.

Also phone posting now so my bad for shitty spacing.

There's a demo with like 6 playable characters. I recommend Shun Ei, he is a good representative of what characters can do in this game.

There's always matches on PS4 but netcode is not the greatest. Honestly you should just play it because it's a fun game. There will always been a scene for any game. Hell Alpha 2 still has a scene on fightcade.

Yes, the game has a demo, and yes, the game is still alive on PS4. Might take some navigating, but people are definitely playing. As for staying alive, the KoF community is a tiny, but determined group. The game will always have people, but it might be difficult to find people in your skill range.

Two totally different games that cater to different audiences. It's not a dichotomy, people can and should gravitate to what clicks with them be it Tekken, KoF or whatever.

It does in my opinion but I'm a lab rat who can spend hours in practice mode trying out different stuff.

Hmm, I only see the version 2. I'm not sure what updates that version has. Maybe a couple of bug fixes? They haven't done any huge changes since launch. Just tweaks and bug fixes.

>>377015653

GG is okay. YRC's and "set-up, knock down, set-up" gameplay kind of make watching it a joke though. If they fix that and add back in Robo-Ky I might be willing to give GG another chance.

You don't know shit. KOF is big in south america (mexico is a part of north america you geographically-deficient racist), Korea, China, and all the Asian islands. It's like Soccer. Played everywhere else but the US.

And yeah you're still a fucking idiot. Tekken and KOF FG scenes are not completely overlapping. What's Tekken got going for it anyway? Supers? Akuma? Can't you just play Street Fighter for those?

Tekken7 doesnt truly offer an incentive to buy and play it over 6 or Tag2.
The newcomers are shit and I could do without comeback mechanic supers.

Games like SF or KoF change so much from entry to entry, with Tekken its been the same shit since 5.

The two newest additions for Tekken are Akuma and Supers. Supers have been around since Street Fighter II and so has Akuma.

Oh, main differences between the two versions of the demos is that some of the characters that are included. in the first version of the demo Dino was slower than when the game released. Version two uses the graphics update. It's not eye popping, but it's certainly looks better than what it did before. Version two being the only one that's there makes sense since it better represents what the game looks like at the present.

I don't know. I didn't say they were created by SF, just that they've at least been around since then. Nit pick details if you want but I didn't make any claims that SF invented supers.

Still doesn't change the fact that the most current Tekken boasts two things that have been in street fighter since 1994 as new gimmicks.
>>
>>377017154
True, even back in the Neo Geo days KoF wasn't one of their best looking games. MotW and 3S did look nice.

The chisese are a peculiar case when it comes to KoF. Some years back a KoF 97 tournament stream got over 400k views which was more than evo at the time. Not many of them have a ps4 (even mentioned by a sony rep), but a whole lot more of them seem to watch KoFXIV than anyone else. I remember during NCR a bit over 3k people watched KoF while in china a week later a tournament of 24 entrants got 56k views. Same with the WCS for KoF, there were different language streams and if one added them up including the japanese numbers it was a bit over 10k (kinda makes sense since in the western hemisphere it was late at night, so not too many people would watch), but the chinese stream had 240k views at it's peak. Some people have said that the chinese numbers are fake, but assuming they are only a tenth of what was reported that's still a bigger amount of eyes than what it gets in the west. Makes me wonder how many chinese will actually buy the steam version when it releases. In the grand scheme of things I'm not expecting huge numbers, but since it'll be on a new platform it will get some sort of boost.

>>377017398
Wasn't nitpicking really, just wasn't too sure when they were first introduced. I had an idea and was wondering if anyone could confirm. I don't necessarily disagree with your claims.

"Mahvel 3 is just XFactor vergil the game!"

And yet all of these games have deeper meta than these over-simplifications. /v/ is pretty good at talking shit about games and not playing them though. I imagine it's worse with fighters since you have to actually put in time and practice with them.
>>
>>377031958
>Can make same argument for any game.
But that one is actually right.

You aren't just going to randomly YRC, but in 14 good characters can get decent maxmode combos off buttons good in neutral and have no reason not to do so. The majority are not very hard unlike many FADC in 4

Except in 3v3 mode there's a whole meta around conserving meter and using it strategically for guard cancel rolls and CD's.

You also get fewer EX'es from your max meter the earlier you are in the team roster so your combos and tactics must change as well.

So what if most of the cast has a good combo starter. At least that means the floor is even. Where things get really interesting in high level play is positioning and mindgames.

People are mostly right about parry option-selects and 3s these days too. I still don't let other people's opinions on games ruin my experience in the game though, which is the sort of lame hand-wringy shit >>377030953 is doing.

>>
>>377033029
>there's a whole meta around conserving meter
You get meter incredibly fast and there is never any real need to. It is never such a drastic factor that you really need to change up your gameplan for it

>your combos and tactics must change as well.
Seeing as you are generally going to have your team and formation not really. Possibly between people but even then it is pretty common to have similar placement cause the character works well in that space.

>So what if most of the cast has a good combo starter.
Because having access to an easy big combo starter means players focus on that.

>Where things get really interesting in high level play is positioning and mindgames.
Yes, the mind game of everyone fishing for their maxmode combo cause it is easy to get them started and always the bets choice. The game has very little variety.

Sorry but in tournament matches where one guy has been smart with meter and has 4 on his last character versus someone who he's been forcing to guard roll cancel etc there is a clear advantage in more meter. It might build fairly quickly but not so quickly so you can't be forced into a deficit. Meter management matters.

People switch up their character placement regularly to counter-pick.

>having access to an easy combo means people focus on that

You can't tell me why that's bad though. Parrying is really accessible to everyone and very powerful but not everyone focuses on parrying or they die. People only finishing for the same CR Low will eventually get opened up and punished. As with any fighting game you still have to mix up your attacks in XIV. Not only that, but there are differences in player styles where some go for meter building early on to save for later where other makes quick smart decisions with the meter they have on the fly and make up for their lack of meter later on with good reads and positioning. Plenty of matches have been won not using Cr. A/B Max Cancel. You just have a heuristic where you only pay attention to that happening because you have a fundamental dislike of the mechanic. I don't so I'm fine with it.

>game has very little variety because character use their moves

Marvel has very little variety because everyone's just finishing for their 100 hit combo.

Street Fighter IV has very little variety because everyone just goes for unblockables

GG has very little variety because everyone just knocks down, throws out a projectile (if applicable) and then sets up for another knockdown.

If you don't like the flow of the game. Don't play it. Other people do and will.

>Seeing as you are generally going to have your team and formation not really. Possibly between people but even then it is pretty common to have similar placement cause the character works well in that space.
people change the characters they use from time to time and some characters may have higher priority to be anchor/mid/point so no

Well lets look at that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XaleHFdCkY
Kain uses meter like crazy, Marco preserves meter. Kain wins by a mile especially in the third set where he dominates with K'

> regularly
No not really, and for 99% you are gonna see the same stuff anyway

>You can't tell me why that's bad though.
Doing/seeing the same stuff constantly gets boring especially when it is not very hard to do

>People only finishing for the same CR Low will eventually get opened up
Not when the button is generally safe. Sure it is not literally the only button they ever press but it is a dominant strategy cause it only needs to hit once for massive damage

> there are differences in player styles where some go for meter building early
Again this really is not very common, people gravitate to the most effective strategy especially when it isn't hard to pull off

>Marvel has very little variety because everyone's just finishing for their 100 hit combo.
Wow you didn't even try with this one.

Look at where you're posting.

You're even more of a nobody for trying to think that works as an insult. Just fuck off and let people enjoy a game they like.

A mixture of Nak/Kula/Mui Mui/Leona for point and mid, Mai anchor.

If Mui Mui had better anti airs, I'd definitely be rolling with her 100% but they just kinda suck.

It worked for SFV at least.

Worked in so much as it's the worst selling SF game in a while and Capcom is still struggling to get their shit released on a regular schedule. That shit worked with SF because normies eat up SF.

Still if you're not a normy then you shouldn't be eating up what the pros tell you as fact. It's fucking sad. Like, it's a fucking video game, explore it yourself and figure out what's possible.

No he is saying everyone just repeats what pros say about it, usually without understanding what is actually being said.

Really kofXIV is basically SFV for hipsters

>Worked in so much as it's the worst selling SF
Really shouldn't throw that around with how bad XIV sold

You are literally the bane of my existence. I keep getting fucking stomped by command grabs thanks to the crazy amount of armor they get.

Mui has bad anti-airs? How so? She has two special anti-airs (the tatsu and the rolling uppercut,) and what I consider one of the best buttons in the game (St. D) I play her because I'm new and she gets a ton of damage off one rekka-confirm into hyper-beam.

KOF's parent company was sold out, dropped its aritsts/programmers, sold around, rebought, recovered, and then repurposed back into making fighting games.

Capcom meanwhile has a billion laurels to rest on and they fucked it up every step of the way. They've lost casuals and had abyssmal sales despite not going through a tenth of a the shit SNK went through.

So yeah I actually say that if I know the context of the companies that made those games. I can definitely make fun of how fucking stupid Capcom has been and how sad it is that this zombie of a company made a game that's way more fun with way fewer resources.

Fighting games in general will end up like beat them ups.

Rare and sell less.
